Let the New One from Candy GO!GO! Pick You Up

I’m in a bad mood! I can’t imagine why! It’s like idol is ganging up on us.

We need a pick-me-up, and I’m not talking about just spinning a few hours’ worth of Negicco or Sakura Gakuin or atmospheric black metal or something. No, we need homi-approximate idol, and it needs to have rock flavors, preferably a passable guitar solo and … a theme! A theme that’s maybe kind of palliative, even ironically, or is at least so titled. Thus we can pretend that everything’s going to be okay!

Hey, I know, isn’t Candy GO!GO! releasing a new single? And didn’t they promise the MV today? They did! Continue reading

TIF Idol Primer: Have a Nice Cup of Pure Coffee Latte

Yeah, shut up, I know that I’m late to the game on getting this little series started. So it goes.

Among the many notable idols that you should be flocking to TIF to see this weekend are idols that you probably never heard of, probably never even thought to check out. But if you’re there for fun rock sounds and those crucial acts that smudge the line between “idols the way that people usually think of that” and “blood-spitting thrashcore chika darlings,” you’ll be pleased to know that there are options!

Yes, I’m talking about rock-sounding, traditionally presented idols. And among the rock-soundingest among them is one of the most traditionally named units that you’ll come across. I give you Pure Coffee Latte:

I Will Not Be Pushed Around, Not Even for NEO JAPONISM

You know what? Nobody (except Kerrie sometimes) tells me what to do. I am a grown-ass man with a grown-ass website and a grown-ass editorial approach that is nothing but grown-ass professional. I–

The joke’s on you, Martin! I’ve had a placeholder in place since the middle of January — it’s laziness alone that has prevented me from doing the thing that you said I should do, which means that, in most ways, you are not the one who is making me do it, but fate. Continue reading

Babyraids JAPAN Enjoyed San Francisco, Thanks

As we know, Babyraids JAPAN, who are all kinds of fun even when maybe getting a little diversified in their sound, took part in this past weekend’s J-POP SUMMIT in San Francisco. While of course it was a hell of an experience even for idols who’ve done Budokan (what a theme today, huh?), I feel like the ability to get a rise out of idols getting a rise out of life is part of what makes this whole endeavor worth it, you know?

So here’s a whole mess of photos and stuff:

Ooooo! New Babyraids JAPAN!

Come on, you know you thought the same thing when you saw the song title:

It’s a Little Idorock for Indie Idol Wednesday with No,SateLight

Folks who follow Homicidols on Facebook have probably come across Andy Edge, who in addition to being a cool person is also a musician in his own right and a big-time idol fan. Dude was in Japan recently, caught BiS’s big BAD SOCiAL show (nbd) among others, including Idol Koushien in April, which included:

Let Babyraids JAPAN Fuel Your Week

Man, you guys, I was a little uncertain as to how good this week was going to be. I was actually looking on YouTube for any video from THE SPUNKY’s actual last live when I decided to take a look at my recs, and … serious, give this a spin:

That riff

I have one request: What does “Baki Baki” mean? Continue reading

Babyraids Looks Like They’re Ready to Have a Great Year

Babyraids JAPAN! The most idorock group in existence is also like making cold-brewed coffee from roasted, ground fun beans. I spent a solid week a while back just rotating through MVs and live videos of theirs; just in my own mind (feel free to disagree!), they have the same raw, manic joy in their work as Dempagumi.inc, but at a more manageable pace and without half of the flashing lights.

They’re releasing a new single next month, and they’re of course doing the one-man routine to promote it. And to promote that, they’ve been putting out these cool promo videos that just kind of lay it down: Continue reading

This Magic 81moment

I can pun on classic songs all day, kids

How about some idorock! Nope, that’s not a question. Our pal Pure Idol Heart had sent me some video of 81moment a while back, and I kept waiting for a good opportunity to show them off, and I’m in a mood and it turns out that their first single is now on the way.

Want to hear “UTAGEI?” Of course you do: Continue reading

PASSPO, Zombies on a Plane, It’s All Good

PASSPO, who as we discussed previously are cool and good in their own right, have an album coming out next month. People seem to be excited about it! If this is the degree of fun ideas and general “girls rock” goodness wrapped up in it, I bet it’s going to be a pretty good album; for now, a bunch of people over the age of 30 are going to be like “oh, ha, I recognize the things they’re doing here!” and a bunch of people who only remember MTV for Real World/Road Rules Challenge are more “I don’t understand why there are dancing zombies on an airplane.”

Have you met any flight attendants? For people who could easily zone out, they’re the least likely zombies ever

That’s right: The do-it-all PASSPO just did their own tribute to “Thriller.” Continue reading
