Treat Yourself to This QUEENS Song

At first thought, when I saw this in my list of good Weekender things, I had no more intention of doing anything else with this QUEENS MV than to do exactly that, feel good about my choices, and move on with my life. But then I recalled the last time I had occasion to celebrate QUEENS in such a way, which in retrospect felt like I was giving them short shrift for no good reason, so I opted to listen to the whole thing:

And friend, I am both very super into this song, but it also made me wonder — is QUEENS pretty much the best thing right now, or what? Continue reading

Your Homicidols Weekender #206

Happy Halloween! Oh you guys, we made it. No matter what happens on Tuesday, no matter what happens after Tuesday, we have arrived at the single greatest day of the year. We have big plans here at Maniac Mansion, so forgive me for truncating things a bit more than usual so I can get out to wrap up my remaining to-dos and settle into scaring the living bejeezus out of neighborhood children and filling myself and the future missus and assorted friends with delicious sweetness. AND lots of booze!

Wherever you are, whatever you’re doing, I hope you also get to have a good time today/tonight. I also hope that the fact that the veil between the worlds of the living and dead is already thinning and will all but disappear come sundown doesn’t mean that you will soon be awash in spectral visitations by departed loved ones/mortal enemies, nor that we’ll have yet another incomprehensible disaster on the near horizon as literal chaos demons enter our plane to wreak still more havoc for their own amusement.

What a Day

Of all the various Halloween streams, this one feels like it would get just the right mix of elements:

CARRY LOOSE, Carried Off

We’re Crying Loudly over here because those indie emo kids from WACK have finally fulfilled their promise to disband on Halloween, but not before leaving us with a final single and music video. Let’s color ourselves with COLORS.

I Feel Like a Little Part of Me Just Died

Oyasumi Hologram’s been kind of quiet lately, and that stands to reason in times like these (Kanamil’s birthday notwithstanding), but as always be careful what you wish for, as quiet can also be a harbinger of bad things. And so it was when I perked up earlier at seeing a new tweet from OyaHolo official, which was precisely the wrong damn reaction to have to seeing this particular tweet:

In other words, 8-chan’s out effective tomorrow — as a friend, not a foe, and will probably be around to some extent — but OYSM now consists just of Kanamil, and what that future looks like is up for discussion. Continue reading

Weekend Livestream Spotlight: NECRONOMIDOL, LiLii Kaona and Codomomental Games – Halloween Edition

It is the most wonderful time of the year: the season of idols appearing in Halloween costumes!!  Even though Minna no Kodomochan (unfortunately) does not have a livestream this weekend [UPDATE: she does now], here’s a bonus Cinnamon as Kiki:

It would not be a proper Halloween without an appearance by the Darkness Girls themselves. NECRONOMIDOL will be streaming their holiday gig with costumed cheki options for overseas fans.

Let’s Also All of Us Together Enjoy These New MANACLE Songs

They warned us! MANACLE, that is; they did it right and built anticipation for the dropping of two new tracks (which was actually yesterday, sue me), which you should go find and listen to via the streamer of your choice, and then let’s all get back together to talk about them, okay? Okay.

I’ll take “Huhen to Huhen” over “Cursed EXIT” myself, but I wouldn’t be mad at you for going in the opposite — I am a well-established stan for jangly guitar in idol rock songs, and “Huhen” reminds me a lot of the musical moves that were prevalent in 2014 and 15 when I was first getting into this stuff. “EXIT” is cool as a dance track, period, regardless of whether anybody intended that for it.

I was worried that MANACLE wasn’t for me because they didn’t immediately leap out of Spotify and promise to enslave my soul like a certain original group. But that’s okay! So far, so good, and they’re steadily producing for their fans, so we’ll no doubt be seeing plenty more from them as time goes on.

Let’s All Listen to the Trailer for the New 2& Album Together

The unyielding mess that is human existence in this the Year of Pour Lui 2020 has given us some nice things, you must admit. People liked “Tiger King,” you know? And I used the personally got a bunch of things in order, started working on some cool projects that will hopefully bear fruit soon, got some new toys. Good stuff. On the idol front, despite everything, 2020 has ably followed the every-even-numbered-year-has-lots-of-great-debuts trend, and without saying what they are I’ll say that a few records have even entered my all-time idol top 10, which is very cool. Good things are indeed afoot.

And speaking of good things and all-time favorites, let’s check in on one of the chika scene’s greats and … a new compilation album that releases imminently!

I share this with the caveat that Saki has technically not been one of those idol things in quite some time. Does that bother us? Absolutely not! Have I delivered this same spiel before? Probably! Does it matter? No! Let’s listen to the dang thing! Continue reading

BiSH Wage War for Punk Integrity in COD tie-in MV, STORY OF DUTY

BiSH enable God Mode in their “STORY OF DUTY” MV which doubles as a promo for the Call of Duty mobile game.  For a war game endorsement, it is probably notable that they never pick up a gun. Instead they dance with cheat codes enabled, invulnerable to all incoming attacks while obliterating their foes with impunity.

Best part: 1:24 where Chitti and Atsuko taunt tanks by doing The Robot.

New PassCode Feels Good, Man

Consider yourselves lucky that I didn’t turn this entire post into one long pun on the song title

I’ll be honest with you, folks: I may have shut down almost all of my old barrage of notifications to keep from losing my mind, but I did keep a few on, and one of those was for PassCode, which partly works because their Twitter account is about 10% as busy as most, so you the ratio of quality information to filler schedule stuff is quite high, but this being the season that it is and the environment that it is and with everything else going on, I kept seeing “Anything New” and assuming it was some kind of streamed live event and only realized late yesterday that OMG ITS’S A NEW SONG, WELL THAT’S APTLY NAMED I GUESS, HOLY HELL THERE’S AN MV COMING. And so I did that little nervous hoppy-hand-shaky dance thing in my head and got all het up, so when the sucker came up live on YouTube this morning I could not have been more ready.

Yes. Yes! Ha ha, yes! Continue reading

LiLii Kaona Celebrate 3rd Anniversary with Europa MV, Quietly Demand Your Attention

LiLii Kaona celebrated their three-year anniversary this past weekend with a special live at Moon Romantic, and they had a lot to celebrate. LiLiKao’s incredibly productive third year has included the release of their startling EP, KIYOKU, their first DVD, and non-stop performances including frequent appearances on the MoonRomantic Channel and the beyond excellent Tribu.pre live series. However, despite their near-constant activity, LiLii Kaona may still rank among the best kept secrets in chika idol.

It is well beyond time for that to change. Although we are about a month away from considering the Best of 2020 nominations, if there is any justice in the world (spoiler alert: there is not) LiLii Kaona should be a finalist in the category of Best EP for  KIYOKU, Song of the Year for the impeccable “Rust”, and now, after premiering during their 3rd anniversary live, Best MV:
