I have been back home from Japan for almost a week and it has been a difficult transition. The jet lag is rough, and I only gave myself one day of recovery before jumping right back into work, but the most difficult part is the culture shock of being back in a world where people walk around in public with their phones on speaker carrying on full volume conversations about who their niece is dating and their last visit to the doctor. I miss Japan so much, and not just for the idols and the live house scene. I also miss the bread and the soaking bathtubs, and I particularly miss the culture where people don’t loudly subject others to their personal business in public.

Your Homicidols Weekender #413
This will be the last Weekender filed from Japan for a bit. My visit is winding down. I spent the last couple of days in Hiroshima which, despite being the home of YABACUBE and PLANCK STARS , has not included any idol-related activities. I did visit the Peace Park, Bomb Dome, and Memorial Museum yesterday which was a truly unforgettable experience that will resonate in my heart always. I highly recommend adding it to your bucket list.
Your Homicidols Weekender #412
I had to slow things down in japan a bit as I caught a pretty devastating cold while standing in the rain for three-and-a-half hours to get ASP merch at the Budokan. It’s proven to be a pretty viscous bug and I spent almost a full 24 hours laid up in bed. Still, was it worth it to get my Budokan t-shirts and autographed poster? Absolutely!!
If my brain wasn’t fuzzy enough due to the ASP cold virus, I am also having fun living in three time zones at once. Homicidols posts on EST while I am living a day-and-a-half in the future on Japan time. Meanwhile my laptop is stuck in the US Mountain time zone. We will be lucky if this posts at all, but we might be better off it didn’t because Oshiloss Corner includes the news that (spoiler alert) PLANCK STARS is disbanding.
Homicidols Live in Japan: Week 1 Report
I have survived the first of my three weeks in Japan, however, after lasts night’s MAD JAMIE one-man at ZEPP Shinjuku I must add the qualifier, “barely.” I was lucky enough to score premium ticket number five in the lottery which awarded me a place right on the rail. Between the crush of a thousand wota at my back and the near constant stream of crowd surfers passing overhead, I am battered and bruised this morning, but it was all more than worth it.
Since arriving here seven days ago, I have been dodging the late typhoon season’s rain and heat by spending considerable time in underground live houses and viewing as many idol gigs as possible.
Here are the highlights so far:
Your Homicidols Weekender #411
Greetings! This edition of The Weekender is being brought to you on location from Japan. I arrived four days ago and although PLANCK STARS ran off to China and situasion split for Germany just as soon I got here, there are still several hundred other chika idol units to see. Over the next couple of weeks, I will do my very best to see each and every one.
So far, I have seen Kaishin no Ichigeki, Yureru Landscape, Seirieki13Ya, YOUR ADVISORY BOARD, YA’ABURNEE, YOLOZ, BOY MEETS HARU, Malcolm Mask McLaren, Cinder-ella, Jyu Jyu, Finger Runs, RAY, Miho , and Sakura Miyabi .
Not bad for four days “work.” I’m going to wrap this up and head out for more idol lives, but first a SPECIAL ADVISORY:
We Interview Idols: Yurapico
A few weeks ago, as Saboten Con 2024 wound down, Yurapico was gracious enough to join us for a chat. It had proven to be a significant weekend for Yurapico. Not only had she achieved her dream of debuting in America, but she had also performed live on stage playing guitar for the very first time.
Our conversation covered a lot of territory as we asked about experiences across her 10+ year career as an idol: from her early days with the legendary punk unit Guso Drop, to the challenges of leading the self-produced unit BURST GIRL, to her current solo career as “The Most Passionate Idol in the World.”
Please enjoy our interview with Yurapico, Keeper of the #Yurasmile.
