Can We Please Talk about xoxo EXTREME for a Minute?

Like, we’ve done it before, but what started off yesterday as a desire to have my second-favorite work playlist followed by something louder* took me down a memory hole that ended abruptly at one of the few idol projects booted up on Bandcamp, which is xoxo(Kiss&Hug) EXTREME, who are simultaneously also idol’s sole absolute devotee of old-school prog rock and therefore a glorious thing.

And it was in the moment when I was two glorious, flute-enhanced minutes into what immediately follows that I decided that yes, a post needed to be blogged, and the closest thing that idol has to Jethro Tull needed a more recent moment of celebration:

The HAMIDASYSTEM Epic’s Fourth Installment Is Glory

Monday is bad. Monday is especially bad when you really want to keep sleeping until Tuesday. Alas, we must all of us rise and get down to business. The very least the universe could do is help out a little bit with something pure and magical and good, you know?

What do you mean, HAMIDASYSTEM released the final leg of their multimedia art project? Blessed be!

Download it here; while waiting for OTOTOY to prepare the file for you, you can go read the accompanying story part. Continue reading

These Are the Details for the FRUITPOCHETTE Resurrection Single

I mean, it’s not much, but I’m so personally hype about this that I had to put it into HTML for the sake of posterity:

What a title. And given how much vintage Pantera I’ve been listening to over the last month, willingly and un, I’m doing this incredible groove riff in my head that’s probably going to be nothing like what the Frupoche band puts together, but that’s fine, it’s Shiori and Mina singing together again, and it’s going to be loud and pretty intense and that makes me want to go punch a kitten in excitement.

Please make an MV.

Homicidols Archives: The Idol Suicides #3

Welcome to Homicidols Archives, an attempt to capture and document the ephemeral and ever-changing entity that is Idol.

Here is the reprint of the first instalment of The Idol Suicides, a column originally written for now-defunct 20hz magazine by Sokichi Osada, the producer of legend-worthy disbanded group Girls Excellency International & currently the producer of Cinema and Boy CQ (Den’ei to Shounen CQ), movie soundtrackers extraordinaire duo.
The Idol Suicides #03 was originally published in March 2017, in the fourth issue of 20hz.

For an introduction to the series, click here. For the other installments, it’s this way.

The text of the article is untouched and as Osada-san sent it to me. However, considering the original layout of the article had images and video content to supplement documentary appartés. I was linked to all idols videos, they are presented as they were. All other hyperlinks have been added by the contributor posting this.

Your Homicidols Weekender #89

Welcome back to Saturday! Did you all have a good week? Mine was breathtakingly busy, and it’s technically still not done because being on the new side for a fancy-pants job like I do at Day Job can frequently mean being a responsible adult even when the work week is supposed to be over. How rude! However, I can’t keep Maniac Mansion festooned with the fancy trappings and filled with honorees if I quit now — and that’s to say nothing of the jamon iberico that I insist upon eating at every meal!

I jest, of course. If I were to keep Maniac Mansion filled with anything, it would be idols mid-U.S. tour who need a regional base of operations. Of course I’d have to move out or sleep in the basement or something, but: Worth it. Just imagine having Ricky Wilson complain that you’re all out of clean towels! A dream.

Anyway, I hope you guys have been paying attention, because while yours truly could barely keep his head above water, idol cranked up the pre-TIF intensity. Yes, things came out this week. Yes, there’s a new TIF guide. Also Papermaiden’s acquisition of the English rights to The Idol Suicides, which I cannot more recommend that you read (final installment runs today!). And, of course, the Fun; even if you don’t want to play, send Kerrie a nice message for her birthday.

It finally stopped raining around here, so other than some light housekeeping, I leave you goofballs to it. Stay out of trouble!

What Are You Implying?

It looks like our old pal Ten Tenko is gonna be an international star, insofar as anybody who burns CDs of traffic noises, voice modulators and oscilloscope beers can:

A Very Special It’s-Kerrie’s-Birthday Edition of the Friday Fun

Last week, I asked you all to share your oshi alignments!

Did you know? Today is my birthday! It’s once in a blue moon that my birthday coincides with a Friday Fun, so I’m getting a bit self-indulgent on all of you for this week. Firstly, I said last year I was holding a Vaporwave-themed party for my Sweet 26, then I remembered I have no friends so you’ll have to do that for me:

Now that the music is sorted, let’s get the guest list. You don’t really see idols tweeting about parties a lot, do you? Or maybe I just follow the wrong idols. The most I normally see are birthday concerts and maybe the girls tweeting about going to karaoke sessions. But I never see anything about say, an idol’s friend’s throwing a surprise party with cakes and balloons and party games.

Maybe they’re all too busy for that, or maybe its just not what they do in Japan, I don’t know. But this week’s special self-indulgent birthday Fun, imagine inviting a whole bunch of idols to a good old-fashioned birthday party and the havoc that would inevitably break out. Continue reading

These Are New PIIIIIIIN Songs

Forgive the lackluster tone in the title, gang; it seems that ol’ Maniac let himself get hornswoggled. Not for the first time, either! Idols will do that to you. At any rate, I was super enthusiastic about sharing just PIIIIIIIN’s song of the summer, only for them to turn around and do this to me instead:

Hey, okay, that’s a good one! It is implicit that there is more. Is there more? Continue reading

HOLY SHiTS, Holy Shit

Oh, okay, now WACK has another mix-up group!

Download here

I totally misread the original tweet and thought this was a Chitti solo project for some reason. Instead, it’s another spin on WACK playing together for purposes of fun. In this case, TIF fun!

At the very least, it’s a fun tune, no? The lyrics are … the lyrics are interesting. And Chitti and Maika are featured. All is good.

Help! Kaqriyo Terror Architect Is Expanding

The image that you see above is impendingly irrelevant:

Two new members! Considering that Kakuriyo is already among the loudest and sonically wild acts in idol — Album of the Year contenders, Corenament runners-up — I have to think that two additional weirdos joining the fray will only make things more of that. Continue reading
