It’s the weekend! And I’m very tired, so I’m not going to do much for a preamble. I’m sure you’re here for the idol news anyway, so here goes:

Welcome to the second installment in our countdown of the top 50 alt, indie and underground idol MVs of all time as chosen by our readers. The ten music videos featured this week mark the first appearance of some of the genre’s heaviest hitters and features three winners of Homicidols Best MV of the Year honors (and a couple of runner ups).

Since their very first release more than six years ago, Minna no Kodomochan have been a perennial favorite of the Homicidols community. Despite the many challenges they have faced over the years, Kodomochan have consistently released some of the most innovative music, and most talked about MVs, of almost any other unit that we cover.
Case in point is their latest digital single, “Shikimi” that they dropped just last week:
Now, Minna no Kodomochan are facing a crossroads.
As hard as it might be to believe, it’s already been more than two years since the last time Homicidols caught up with X!DENT for a chat, during which time they’ve progressed from exciting new hopefuls to becoming a regular fixture of the Korean live idol scene.
Two years is a long time in idol music, so what have they been up to in the interim? Well, quite a lot as it happens, and who better to fill you in on that than the girls themselves.
This week was a bit of a blur, but here’s what I remember: Earlier this week we dropped the first ten videos in our countdown of the 50 best alt-idol MVs as selected by the Homicidols community. Check it out if haven’t already and watch for the next entry in the series to post in the next few days.
Tickets went on sale for PassCode’s US debut tour dates. I snagged tickets for LA even though I am not sure if I will be able to get the time off work.

The Homicidols community has been busy for the past couple of months. We first asked our readers to tell us their five favorite alt, indie and/or underground idol MV’s. We then compiled those entries into a massive list of 127 music videos and again asked our readers to rate each and every one on a scientific and rigorously valid Likert scale.
The results have now been compiled into this incontrovertible and statistically valid list of the 50 GREATEST IDOL MVs of ALL TIME (per the collective opinion of the Homicidols community).
We will present ten each week for the next (*counts on fingers*) five weeks with commentary from Team Homicidols and our readers on why they nominated the MV for consideration.

Just a heads up that we have finished crunching the numbers on everyone’s rating for the 50 Greatest MVs of All Time project. Look for those results to start spilling out next week as long as I survive the heat dome currently parked directly over Casa de Homicidols. I can’t complain about the heat too much though because, while it may be hotter than hades out here in the Southwestern United States, that didn’t stop Himari Tsukishiro from performing an Isiliel livestream from Death Valley. At least she had the wisdom to wait until the sun went down.

It was a packed week for overseas idol shows and events. I enjoyed several days in LA, seeing old friends and meeting new ones at Anime Expo where the main draw for us was Isiliel.

I was able to catch several of Isiliel’s many lives before sitting down with Himari Tsukishiro for an interview. Look for that in the coming weeks.
By the time you read this, I will be on my way to Los Angeles for Anime Expo. I have been asked to contribute to the “地下アイドル: Underground Idols in Japan” panel at Noon on Monday, July 3rd, so if you happen to be at AX, please drop by room 403 AB and I will see you there.
As much of a draw as Anime Expo happens to be, the primary reason I’m heading to LA is to see Himari Tsukishiro in her incarnation as Isiliel.
