We unveiled of your Homicidols Best of 2023 award winners earlier this week, and it was great fun to see all of the reactions from around the world.
For example, here’s a three hour long discussion on YouTube of your Homicidols Best of the Year awards in German. I studied German for two years in high school, but it did not help me much here.
The results are in!
2023 is already in the rear-view mirror, but there is one last official act to be accomplished before the year can be entered into the alt-idol archives: the distribution of your Homicidols Best of the Year awards.
It was an exciting process this year! While there was the usual enthusiastic participation from the Homicidols community, some of the nominees also got involved and encouraged their fans to vote. This resulted in a large influx of participation from Japanese wota that we haven’t experienced before. It was interesting to watch as their votes got comingled with those of us overseas fans and to see where opinions aligned and diverged. The ballots from Japan had a definitive impact in a number categories.
All in all, we had a record number of ballots cast this year and the broadest cross-section of participation that I have ever witnessed in our Best Of the Year Voting. It was awesome to see, and thank you again to everyone who participated.
But enough with the pre-amble. Let’s get on with the awards!!

Just in case you missed the post of a few days ago, you should be furiously voting for your Homicidols Best of 2023 right now! Just one vote per person please, but put ALL of you heart into it. Voting is open through this coming Wednesday, January 17th.
This year’s ballot has gotten a signal boost courtesy of r/BABYMETAL, one of the friendliest subreddits on that site and a place that will always be near and dear to my heart. The nomination of MOMOMETAL and “METALII!!” has produced a slew of ballots that only include votes for those two nominees and, strangely, the Best Video nomination of “Nemophila” by RAY. Our assumption is that our visiting kawaii metalhead friends are confusing this PV from the best shoegaze idols in the business with “A Ray Of Light” by NEMOPHILA.
It is time! You’ve spent twelve months watching, streaming, celebrating and grieving all that the world of alternative and underground idol could throw at you. You’ve told us what you felt were the most significant and compelling moments of the last year. We (meaning, “primarily Kerrie”), have compiled your thoughts and, by community consensus, arrived at our OFFICIAL nominees for Homicidols Best of 2023.
If one of your favorites failed to snag a nomination and you wish to (diplomatically) tell the community how poor it’s taste and judgment is, feel free to drop by the Homicidols Discord server and let everyone know how much you agree with me that RAY should have gotten a nomination for both Album AND Idol of the Year.

It’s the start of a new year! What does this mean for Team? Certainly more idols. 2023 was a busy year, hence why we are posting the Best of 2023 this late. Sometimes, life gets in the way of idol. Damn life.
Despite life’s complications, we are also working feverishly to get nominations finalized and the ballot ready for distribution for the REAL Homicidols Best for the Year recognitions: the ones chosen by YOU, our dear readers and community. Look for that to drop early next week.
