School’s out (for those of you in school) and it’s time to kick off the summer! There is no better way to do that than to go check out a live idol show. Luckily for (some of) us, this upcoming week features many, many opportunities to see idols live in at least four different countries across two Western continents. Is an idol appearing in a town near you? Lets see:
Today marks the exact half-way point of Homicidols Year 2025 and we’re dropping part three of our series on what Team Homicidols and the denizens of the Homicidols Discord server believe are contenders for Best of the Year recognition (so far). We previously went over Best Singles and Best Albums and EPs, so this one is all about the music videos.
Dear brothers, sisters, and gender-free siblings: we have reached an auspicious milestone. Today, we mark the passage of four hundred and forty-four consecutive Saturdays of Homicidols weekendery!!
I wanted to have a whole big “State of the Site” update ready for today’s momentous occasion but, as anyone who has been following along recently knows, I have been dealing with some health issues in the real world the last few months. While the good news is that I can walk almost normally now, my brain is still pretty addled and it continues to take me about three times a long as normal to do anything, including putting posts together, so any big update will have to wait.

My weekend is not off to a great start. I dropped the coffee pot first thing this morning and then accidentally stepped in the remnants (because I hadn’t had any coffee yet). Now, not only do I have tiny glass shards embedded in the bottom of my foot but, even worse, I am having to finish up the Weekender while drinking instant coffee.
If, like me, your weekend needs a hard reset, here’s a bunch of stuff to remind us that there are good things in the world, and most of them are made by idols.
In the first entry of our Best of 2025 (so far) series, the one covering the Best EPs and Albums, we promised that the next post would include best singles AND music videos. The difficulty we encountered was the sheer number of excellent singles that got nominated or Team insisted on including. Even after a few tunes that were also nominated for best MV got shifted into that category, we were still left with more than enough singles to warrant a stand-alone post.
So here they are! The best alt, indie, and underground idol singles that we’ve heard so far this year according to Team and the denizens of the Homicidols Discord server. We’ll cover MVs next time.
Since Phantom Siita jumped into the game, the whole “dark-idols-costumed-in-retro-fashion” thing has been pretty much en vogue. We have seen any number of new idol units adopt related themes and aesthetics, and some existing units even rebooted to take advantage of the trend. We have no issue whatsoever with dark idol being “the thing.” From our perspective, the more melancholy and murderous the better, but we also recognize who was here first and laid the foundation of the dark, foreboding house at the end of the street that Phantom Siita now occupies.

It’s always rough putting together the final touches on these weekly digests of alt, indie, and underground idol happenings as the news and new releases never stop. Just as I was sitting here wrapping it all up and about to hit “Publish,” word of a notable reboot and graduation have both dropped. Ah well. They will have to wait for edition #442.
