And Also GREAT MONKEYS’s
As soon as I hit the publish button on that the mishmash post:
and the EP for their Great Monkey sisters too!
— Christian Winsall (@toxicbreakfast) April 30, 2021
Correct you are, Chris! And because I have unofficially vowed to unabashedly support every idol thing that Julie does, and also because GREAT MONKEYS are great fun, let’s give this one a listen, too, shall we? Continue reading
We Finally Got the the mishmash EP!
I will tell you, I noticed on the TL the other day that the mishmash had a release date for a new EP, and I got super excited about it, and only in the mental preparation for this post did I come to see that the record’s title and title track itself (and #2!) have been with us for months via MV, and so there would be no MV associated with this release, and so I was going to be a jerk about it and not post, but then I actually listened to it all and while I remember not really caring for the title track, I did find that the overall spirit of the release (and okay, the rest of the songs) was actually nice and fun, and I’m in a mood, so let’s do it!
I don’t expect you all to like this the way that I expect you all to like, say, something from PassCode or whatever, but I do expect some of you to like it, and you know who you are, because you’ve been bopping ever since you hit play. Me, it’s not my favorite thing that mishmash (+/- the) ever did, and frankly I preferred their closer-to-OG sound, but groups get refreshes all the time and maybe now was that time for the mishmashes. And who knows? Maybe there’s room for greaser idols out there, too.
Everything’s Coming up Malcolm Mask McLaren
This website is very pro-Malcolm Mask McLaren, so while we do try to keep a certain objectivity about this group and that and which releases are truly good and which are basically warmed-over garbage, some just kind of bring out the enthusiastic fan in us. I won’t make a list; suffice it to say that MMM, the actual focus of this post, is one of them. And when I went to check up on a video I saw they’d released on YouTube, it set off a whole string of discovery moments that make me feel just incredibly happy for them, so yeah, they get a whole-ass post to celebrate the good things afoot! Catching up with Jekyll x Hyde
Man, you guys remember Jekyll x Hyde? Or Jekyll and Hyde or & or however you want to style it. Management-san seems to like “x” these days, so that’s fine. But man, remember them? I wouldn’t be mad if you didn’t — I know that my last actual post about them was two full years ago, so unless you’re familiar thanks to some sporadic Weekender appearances, we certainly haven’t done much to bring them to your attention.
Now, I imagine that a few things have probably happened in, like, two years’ time, but frankly I got a bad back anymore, my days of diving deep into the Internet for random idol unit membership past info are in the past, so let’s just presume that membership=changed and maybe a fan or two can fill in the gaps. What clearly has not changed is that Jekyll x Hyde is one of the most reliably interestingly units in the game — musically, that is, and of course they are; they’re from Nagoya — and a recent spate of Papermaiden sort of re-discovering them for herself got me thinking that maybe it’s time for a refresher post.
So if you’re unfamiliar but you have a passing familiarity with foundational texts in English-language science fiction, you have probably sussed out that the group has some kind of tie to duality. And you’re right! They have a light side (Jekyll Mode) and dark side (Hyde Mode) and frankly they’re both just fine, so let’s survey some recent stuff. Continue reading
Dark Idol Debut: NECRONOMIDOL Initiates Three New Members
NECRONOMIDOL debuted their new lineup last night at The Music Apocalypse, in a set sandwiched between Burst Girl and Broken By The Scream. This follows Sunday’s announcement of the addition of three new members, making the group a quintet after the recent withdrawals of Shiki Rukawa and Roa Toda.
Joining veterans Himari Tsukishiro and Nana Kamino onstage last night were: Continue reading

ATARASHII GAKKO! in One Take Just Sounds Exhausting
This was way too good to Weekender, way too much of just the right energy at the right time to hold up and admire for all of its athletic and artistic excess, super charming and, hell, even kind of inspiring. You may also recall that I vowed to exploit the ever-loving christ out of ATARASHII GAKKO!’s emergence for Western audiences by posting about them in lots of ways all the time and making sure that ol Homicidols Dot Com shows up a lot in search results! I am very clever.
BUT NOT SO CLEVER AS ATARASHII GAKKO!, who “Night Before the Exam” today, which is the extended one-take version of a clip they released back in the early days of their international breakout. I warn you, you will want to dance, but to attempt to dance like ATARASHII GAKKO! for more than, oh, a few seconds is going to leave you breathless and possibly looking for the ice pack and ibuprofen:
Imagine being this fit
After that last release of theirs, I do worry a bit that Our Friends Formerly Known as Leaders may abandon their wild-ass acid-jazz-fueled whatever-you-call-it musical flavor for something perhaps a bit more internationally “normie” friendly, but that they (and 88rising) brought this out is some relief.
And now that we have sufficiently padded our SEO for the week, this is your Homicidol Maniac, signing off!
Your Homicidols Weekender #231
Good morning! How are you all doing lately? It seems like we have a light at the end of the coronatunnel these days (all occupants of Maniac Mansion are vaccinated!) in this country at least, but, like, have you seen India? And meanwhile Japan’s back to a state of emergency. I don’t mean to make light at all, but man, it really seemed like idol was really getting its legs again, and with the festival season kicking off and all the usual summertime shenanigans (to say nothing of what a lot of acts no doubt have planned for the Olympics in Tokyo), I do worry about this thing we all enjoy together.
So: Enjoy what you can when you can. As suggested, we’re entering a pretty hot season for idol stuff anyway, what with Golden Week coming up and the summer months, so expect a ton of releases new and upcoming, and plenty of Weekender fodder among the most particularly weird material we can find. But also, go the heck outside! Man it’s nice out.
With the Virus out There? Are You Crazy?

Some New ASP For Free
Homicidols are of course the most esteemed and respected idol publication online, so we’d never stoop so low to use clickbait headlines. In other words the staff wouldn’t let the author use “FREE ANAL SEX PENiS” as the title. But we do have free ASP songs for you guys! Really!
