Good morning! Man, does it feel good to Weekender again a little bit. To give you just the tiniest bit more detail about why I disappeared for a couple of weeks, as of seven days ago I had this incredible anxiety about being able to handle all of the things in front of me, and I dealt with that by shutting down a lot of the things that I’d ordinarily do. And while I’m talking about that with the right people and getting a better understanding of it, I also know that usually the best therapy for me when I have trepidation about something is to just dive right in. And so, while I thank Team for holding it down on the Weekender front, I also revel this very moment in having stuck my arms up to the shoulders in idol’s guts for the week and pulled out some good stuff.
Love what you love, gang. And if the Fun is any indication, there’s a lot of love out there.
Oh, Weird, Okay
For the record, we easily topped FRUITPOCHETTE’s crowdfunding needs:
Such philosophical quandaries are not for the faint of heart, nor for the enterprising fancy idol blogger to contemplate too dang hard because these Codomomental previews blink back out of existence just as soon as they appear. We can deal with existential questions later!
For now, this morning brings us a preview track from Yukueshirezutsurezure’s upcoming album of remixes and re-recordings and all that jazz. Which I think I didn’t know about! That’ll happen when you disappear for a couple of weeks. But fun, I’m glad that’s happening. Take a good cue from a good Zenkimi thing. Anyway, your song:
Two hours are fake, yada yada. Continue reading
Happy Friday!!! I’m filling in for Kerrie this week, and I know I’m not nearly as much fun, but it is indeed Friday so at least I’ve got that much going for me!
So last week the theme was #BadIdolAwards, and with ground that fertile, there were some pretty darn funny responses…
Now for this week, we’re actually looking at something that goes beyond Friday for some fun, and hopefully continues well past the next week. This is an idea we’ve kicked around for probably close to a year now, and I think it’s time we got it rolling…
So Minna no Kodomo-chan are tottering into an uncertain future. This has been a savage year for graduations and disbandments, so it follows that we could toss a few more heartbreaks onto the proverbial woodchipper of our emotions and further dilute a scene that, in what feels like the blink of an eye, went from astonishingly diverse to increasingly monochromatic. Sucks.
But yes, we did lose HAMIDASYSTEM, only to gain a new HAMIDASYSTEM, and I’m going to put it out there that “Kizu no Oto” here is probably exactly the track that I needed to hear this morning:
Minna no Kodomochan has lost a child. Following an understandably emotional encore at their tour final Thursday night, Honoka announced her retirement from the unit. This was the first time Honoka had been able to appear on stage for the current national tour after a neck injury in July. Honoka assured fans that her physical state was good and her rehab complete, but she would still have to give up being a child.
Kodomochan management officially confirmed this morning that the group would be moving forward with Cinnamon. Continue reading
So you may have noticed that I kind of dropped off the face of the earth recently. There’s a story there, but one that I don’t feel like rehashing (Team got the short version last week). It sort of peaks at “sir, we can’t make you stay, but you really should” and plateaus shortly thereafter with “yes, all of the notifications” and then denouements its way through two full weeks’ worth of an effective vacation that I never intended to have, but here we go. I had to consider whether my baby (that’s Homicidols) needed me, if I needed it, if any of it mattered, if this was the actual state of things, etc. Continue reading
Y’know, we talk about about Yufu Terashima quite often amongst ourselves on the twitters, but I did a quick check and to the best of my knowledge, we’ve never posted anything specifically about her on this blog. I mean yeah, she was a member of that iconic group that pretty much gave birth to the movement, but perhaps Yufu herself goes a little bit more into the sort of pure idol territory that this blog appreciates but doesn’t usually cover.
But when you film an MV for a song that is not gives a fun visual medium to a delightful pop gem, but eludes to the elusive answers of one of the biggest questions that the human race has been asking since it first formed an inquisitive thought, you pay attention!
Once upon a time, C-Style held this almost mythic quality for me. They were “out there” in the sense that you’d see their name associated with all of these events, they were known for slapping their fans after gigs, they had this weird samurai thing going on, etc., but they were also kind of inaccessible in that they were a tough group to find in a music-and-or-video sense. I eventually got all of that sorted out, and they were one of my “performance” favorites — I liked the idea of them and what they did far more than was warranted by the limited musical media I could get to — and I made what felt like good-faith efforts to promote them.
That was a long time ago! Like literal years! Since then, reality and the impositions of life have made ol’ C-Style part of the Post If You Can cohort of idol notables. In other words, if they ain’t releasing, I’m a terrible follower and not posting, and this being well-established chika idol, it usually means maybe two posts a year, at best. But this time, friends? We’re breaking a record since the last one.
That’s right! There’s a new single (out when? who knows!), and that begets a new MV, and this is Monday and it’ll put you in a good mood, so watch it: Continue reading
It’s backwards week here at Slodicimoh where lot’s of newbies (and Sari) made the front page while the A-listers are populating the weekender. Also, don’t forget that the Friday Fun is never limited to Fridays… you can join in at any time!
First up, the best news in for-freaking ever: Honoka will return to performing with Minna no Kodomochan at their tour final on 8/29.
Congratulations to Fruitpochette for hitting their crowdfunding target!! Now we have a single, MV and nation-wide tour of Japan to look forward to.
Will you just look at this! Proper 70s style girl punk idols – with paper bags on their heads?!
