We are one third of the way through the Homicidols calendar year (which runs December through November for REASONS) so we thought it was time to make note of the songs, albums and MVs that we’ve had on repeat for the last four months. When I say “We,” I mean Team Homicidols and the denizens of the Homicidols’ Discord server. We’ve surveyed the entirety of the various elements that make up the Homicidols’ hive mind and come up with the following nominations for best singles, EPs, albums and MVs of the first quadrimester of our 2023.
Month: March 2023
Your Homicdols Weekender #331
Hey gang. This will be a truncated version of the Weekender as I am out traveling with family far from Casa de Homicidols. It is also a historic Weekender as it is the first ever composed entirely on mobile. However, after publishing a Saturday digest of alt-idol happenings for 330 consecutive weekends, I feel something of an obligation to ensure that this streak remains unbroken (at least until we hit issue #444 at which point, I believe, Hanako-San murders me in the toilet). So, while my family sleeps in, I will tap out as much as I remember of what happened this week in idol.
Let’s Discover some Idols: DEMO
It is not often that a MV comes along that causes the alternative idol fandom to issue a collective, “What the F…?” This is a genre whose foundational keystones include iconic moments of visual shock such as BiS running naked through Aokigahara, Guso Drop being splattered in blood and other bodily fluids, and the graphic introduction of Brand new Idol SHiT. It takes a lot to get the crowd that’s been further desensitized by the X-rated shenanigans of PLANCK STARS to do a double take, so when an upstart new unit makes this jaded audience go, “This is unhinged!”, we need to take a closer look.
The unit is questions is DEMO who just released this MV for their debut single, “Rice Music.”
Your Homicidols Weekender #330
This past week was an emotional roller coaster, what with Zenkimi’s Budokan performance and indefinite hiatus, so let’s focus on the future instead:

Your Homicidols Weekender #329
Judging by the crowd in Oshiloss Corner, it was rough this week, and the next few days probably aren’t going to be any easier. This week is guaranteed to be an emotional roller coaster for Zenkimi fans as the yami kawaii pioneers play the Budokan on Wednesday just before retreating into a status of indefinite hiatus. Be extra kind and patient with your friends who dig Codomomental.
Your Homicidols Guide to Traveling to Japan
Now that Japan has opened its borders to overseas visitors again, we are fielding a lot of requests for travel advice in the Homicidols Discord server. I actually started compiling the following travel guide just prior to COVID shutting down the world for two-plus years, but seeing the current influx of prospective or first-time travelers has motivated me to finally finish it.
Your Homicidols Weekender #328
Sing a song. Rock N’ Roll. La la la la la la. I’ve had that stuck in my head a lot his week. It is all PLANCK STARS’ fault.
Also this week: Himari wrapped up Isiliel’s first European tour and completed the recording of her upcoming album.

REIRIE Release their Debut Song and MV
REIRIE, the most highly anticipated, and surprising, new unit of 2023 dropped their debut MV yesterday. REIRIE marks the reunion of two of the most highly revered talents in chika idol, Rei Kuromiya and Rie Kaneko, who first endeared themselves to the world with LADYBABY. The re-assembly of this well-loved duo was announced on New Years Day, which makes the title of their first single entirely appropriate for this Year of the Rabbit.
