Well, we’ve all been painfully online over the past few days. We know the situation about the overseas idol group being harassed and we’ve all seen take after take after take. We’re all tired but seemingly, the discussion just isn’t stopping. In the hateful maelstrom of internet give and takes, sometimes things only last a day but more fuel keeps being added to the fire, with a recent YouTube reaction channel inviting more people to belittle them after being doxxed.

Homicidols Community Project: Top 50 Alt-Idol MVs of All Time
We are excited to announce our new community project. Last fall, we and many of our readers all shared our 10 favorite idol songs. This time around, we are being a bit more ambitious. Our goal with this project is to identify the 50 best alt, indie, and underground idol MVs of all time.
Here is our plan:
- Collect nominations for Best MVs from the Homicidols Community.
- Ask our readers to rank all the nominations on a Likert-type scale.
- Pitch the ranked MVs against each other in a World Cup-style tournament.
- Compile the tournament results into a final ranked list.
This may take us most of the summer. I hope you don’t have any plans.

There’s been a lot of idol-related idiocy on the Internet this week directed at overseas live idols in general, and especially a unit from the US called SORB3T. The California trio made the mistake of trying to bring a little sweetness and positivity into the world, so it was immediately decided that they must be destroyed. They gist of the virtual vitriol directed their way seems to rest on the idiotic criticism that overseas, Japanese-influenced idols are incorporating Japanese influences into their idoling. Non-Japanese idols may even (gasp) speak in Japanese words which, apparently, must not be allowed.
This is a nonsensical standard, and to highlight it, I’d like to focus on one of my favorite new idol units, BR!OT (Brat Riot Girls). They are a Japanese idol unit, but they (gasp) only sing in English!

Last weekend, I had a great time in LA seeing the US debut of CHICKEN BLOW THE IDOL. It was a great show and they put it all on stage through two performances. Even with kids and obachans in the audience, they performed some of the hardest core stuff. There were also a couple buppan session so there was a chance to get to know the members a bit. It turns out that Ruko is practically fluent in English so we were able to chat. She told me that she had actually read the Homicidols piece I wrote about them. She didn’t say whether or not she liked it, but she did read it, and that was enough to make my week.

TIF Hits Seoul
In news I am still coming to terms with even as I type this, The Korean live idol scene recently hit another major milestone with the news that TIF will be hosting their first live event in Seoul, with a roster almost evenly split between local talent and some choice premium imports that anyone reading this site may well already know.

Hey America: Let’s get Ready for CHICKEN BLOW THE IDOL
We are less than one week away from CHICKEN BLOW THE IDOL landing on American shores for their US debut.
This coming Sunday, May 14, CHICKEBLO will be appearing in Torrance, California at the LALALA Matsuri with Ramen Yokocho. They are scheduled for two performances on the main stage at 12:15 and 4:00 pm. They will also be manning a booth at the event for merch sales and, we’re hoping, cheki.
There will also be a dozen prominent ramen restaurants from LA and Las Vegas in attendance so, Ramen + Idols? I’m not sure of a better way to spend a Sunday.

We’re celebrating Cinco de Mayo weekend here in the southwestern United States and looking forward to next weekend when CHICKEN BLOW THE IDOL visit Los Angeles for their US debut. Meanwhile, all the overseas idol news this week involved Europe.
