I’ve been extremely pro-969 from the very first time I heard them, and it was pretty damn heartbreaking to find out that the group (as a group, at least) is basically done soon.
And why is that? I don’t know — maybe it’s the really creative songwriting, the general level of talent, another fusion of live band and idol. But they’re good, and they blended together material as well as anybody.
Nonetheless, the overall 969 project still exists to some degree. Before the hiatus announcement, they released this great recorder cover of “Senbonzakura” by Yumeneko, and then today dropped her acoustic cover of Radiohead’s “Creep”:
Along with this fantastic attempt to a personal musical idol:
@thomyorke I'm Japanesegirl and idol. I'm covered your song. I love
you ❤ 8/21 meet you!https://t.co/rV3v1QnJ0C— 結夢音子8/25新世界 (@yumeneko_969) August 18, 2016
I mean, the headline’s just a ruse. Yumeneko will keep doing these things. There may be another iteration of 969 in a few months. WE MIGHT ALL DIE TOMORROW. Who knows?
this is seriously the only time Radiohead has ever been listenable
Ouch …
