“We’re releasing a new live video at 7:00” said the tweet, and my heart jumped a little bit because while the Greatest Idol Group That People Are Just Now Starting to Realize Exist Despite My Never Shutting Up About Them For More Than Two Years, Yanakoto Sotto Mute, have lots and lots of live video online, most of it is fancam; an official cut, maybe with high-quality audio, would be the kind of treat worth carving out time for.
As we know, the group is in the middle of a three-month EP-per release schedule that’s sort of the rage among idols these days, and they’re currently on a free tour, TO THE GATE. This is taken from a stage in Osaka. Old fans, prepare yourselves accordingly; new people, prepare for the possibility of your soul leaving your body:
They’re so damn good. It’s been a really long time* since a group has just straight-up commanded me to watch their every movement and listen to every note. That raw emotion in “sputnik note” alone could fuel a cross-continental race of perpetual motion machines. I wish I could fund not just their relentless international touring, but a special kind of time machine that kept their own personal time from advancing while they still interacted with the world around them, purely to extend the live of this once-in-a-lifetime project.
The only thing wrong with Yanakoto Sotto Mute is that there’s still a lot of music for them to release, and I have to wait for it. Two EPs to go on this run; the one in the can is the best collection of three songs that anybody at all released this year. What a blessing it is to share the world with them.
