CHILDISH TONES and Beni Remind Us To “God Bless The Girls”…

CHILDISH TONES, the toy-instrument garage-rock band led by Naoki Nemoto seem to have really struck gold ever since they started recording songs with Beni Usakura. They’ve released four highly-prized singles so far, all of which sold-out of their initial vinyl pressings almost immediately upon release, and it seems only natural that it’s time for them to level-up to the long-play format.

So with that, their newest release is a package of twelve twee-pop nuggets, including both the previous singles and and some new stuff as well! “God Bless The Girls” is the title of this collection, and it just dropped last week!

Here’s a short trailer with a handful of song snippets from the previous singles to check out…

And here’s an MV for title track, written by YURINA da GOLD DIGGER of the fantastic neo-city-pop band Magic, Drums and Love… It’s a lovely slice of Phil Spector-esque pie with whipped cream on top that’ll bring a smile to the face of even the most jaded grumpy-pus…

Also on this album is their most recent single, a cover of the Smiths classic “Ask”!! Anybody who follows my tweets knows that I’ve been begging for years for an idol to do a Smiths song, so it’s just too perfect that is was Beni who stepped up and made it finally happen!

By, the way, did you catch that little Violent Femmes nod at the end of the song? Well played…  😀

It appears that the vinyl edition of this album (And the cassette tape!) is already sold out, but the CD is still available and can be ordered internationally from CD Japan and places like that. Childish Tones’ label, Kilikilivilla, has also previously released English-language versions of these songs on streaming platforms and iTunes, plus they have a bandcamp page that this may possibly show up on at some point, (They seem to update it rather irregularly ) but I can’t verify if that’ll happen with this album or not.

Now here’s a lo-fi video of the CHILDISH TONES and Beni doing their thing…

And for bonus cool points, here they are doing their cover of Sylvain Sylvian’s (Of the New York F’n Dolls) solo tune “Teenage News”

And to take us out, here’s a live version of “Ask”… AND don’t forget, if it’s not love, then it’s the bomb that’ll bring us together…
