Let’s Pause and Enjoy Some New Yanase You

Man, when was the last time that I got to post about Kyoto’s #1* solo rock-oriented idol, Yanase You? I think I’ve managed to dedicate but one whole dang post about her in two years (a few other references notwithstanding). That kind of sucks and is unfortunate, given that I mostly like what You releases — in the doubt-I’ll-ever-publish-it “Idols That I Consistently Need to Be Reminded About, Ranked” post, she’s right near the top of the list. It’s also only mostly true that I need reminders, as I have a list of acts that I visit about once per quarter or so, just to keep up.

Anyway, serendipity struck, and this check-in revealed that You had dropped a new single, her fifth(!), yesterday, and there’s an MV to check out!

I wasn’t crazy about her most recent single (just a few months old!), but this? This I like. That neo-traditional+rock sound works so well when it’s coherently put together, and what we get in this case is right the hell on point. Truth be told, if you go all the way back through You’s catalog, you’ll find that’s she hits way way way way way more often than she foul tips, and, depending on how you interpret these things, she can get a good bit heavier as well.

And, you know, there’s a real paucity of Kyoto idols in our orbit, and I’m always down to support another local scene.

*Objectively, this is subjectively true

A Song Called ‘WorldBreak’ Is Probably a Good Intro to Yanase You

People sometimes ask me, “Maniac, how do you always find so much stuff?” And the answer to that is long and complicated! It helps to be connected with other people of like interest who are just as thoroughly going through the Idolverse on a regular basis — you can do a lot worse than to see what’s happening in the Idolmetal group on Facebook or follow friends in the These Are Also Good widget there to the right. It also helps to follow the crap out of idols on Twitter and scroll through the feed just as a matter of practice. Nobody knows idols as well as other idols, and you’re invariably going to be able to connect with something that you hadn’t seen before.

To whit! Last week, I saw a few mentions of this Yanase You person (Twitter), up to including this video:
