Summer rolls on with a flurry of activity and overseas idol events, including:
pinponpanpon are back in the US and causing mayhem. Today they are in Chicago for Summersmash. They have also announced an unofficial Anime Expo after party in LA for July 3rd. That is shaping up to be quite the weekend as YURAPICO and You’ll Melt More will be performing at and around AX as well.

With both Isiliel and Zenbu Kimi no Sei da. tearing through Europe this month, it was inevitable that they run into each other at some point. It happened last weekend in Norway:
Zenkimi have headed home for a bit while Isiliel went on to perform in Poland for the first time. She heads to Germany next.
YURAPICO will be in Australia next weekend for a series of shows.
YURAPICO also just announced a joint tour with and GARUDA through Germany and the Netherlands in August.
diig secure a top spot for the second week in a row by trading in their cell phones for firearms in this MV for their limited edition guerilla single, “Seifuku Kikan.” While the single is only available as physical media, they also dropped a full album this week.
Here’s some heavy, guitar driven idol rock from Re:Yu.
We don’t always feature Heroines units in the Weekender, but when we do, it’s usually AdamLilith.
A-list undergrounders Ringwanderung released a whole brilliant album this week. The fact that they are not major label just demonstrates how there is no justice in the world (or, alternatively, just how little I truly understand the music industry).
STARRYxNIGHT deliver their vision of the future in the form of a new single.
“Veteran Rookie Solo Idol” is the fun new one from Yurimaru (ex. APOKALIPPS, SZWARC, and Youmenosay).
Me! of MAD’S iNK thrash through about six genres in the MV that’s anything but mellow.
Here’s a short, sweet tune from U3NEKO.
The gamer girls of AZ-ON drop another song about the alternative reality they live in.
Here’s some sweet polyrythmic electronica from rookie unit SugarNote.
cleomery practice telling their story of the memory of you and me under unchanging stars. No biggie.
It’s the idol unit whose music sounds a thousand times better than their name: Blue Cheese Choco Fondue.

At their tour final the other day, PIGMONZ finally announced the results of their re-audition and who will round out their membership as a fourth. If you remember back three whole months ago, the debut of Pour Lui’s latest unit was to consist of herself and three idol newcomers. This plan was almost immediately derailed when it was revealed that rookie idol Sena had lied during auditions, was not actually a rookie, and was soon dismissed for breach of trust.
Aside: I will never quite understand how Sena thought she could pull that off. Idol wota are some of the most compulsive of otakus when it comes to documenting every minute detail of the idol scene including the membership of obscure and deeply underground units. Someone, somewhere was going to have the evidence of her previous experience. It would be near impossible to hide. Anyway…
After a second round of auditions, PIGMONZ has selected newcomer Natsume as their fourth member. This is a timely decision as San is currently nursing an injury and will likely by taking some time off soon for surgery and recuperation.
A number of familiar faces appeared a the unveiling of the new unit KiDULT. including:
- Chii Mayo (ex. CHEMICAL X, FAKE PLANCK STARS, and My Best Friend)
- Reno (ex. FAKE PLANCK STARS, and CrocoholiC)
- Mea Yodonari (ex. Paraphrase Refrain and act libit)
- Nonchi (soloist and ex. FAKE PLANCK STARS)
- Naoi, who is a beginner to idol but works at IDOLY cafe.
They will debut on August 1st with the motto, “It’s not that we abandoned becoming adults, we simply chose not to. That’s all.”
