We’ve all heard idol groups mess around with ska before, from Hauptharmonie going hard with it to BiSH managing to sound almost like Operation Ivy for a second. So of course it there’s at least one legitimate ska idol project:
The idol’s name is Miyu, and the project is fittingly called … wait for it … SKA iDOL-PROJECT.
Update: Actually, from the comments:
the group’s (?) name is “Suki, Kirai, Aishiteru.” [I like you, I hate you, I love you]. i think they’d sound good with more members, so i guess it’s a good thing that they’re currently recruiting!
To get a better feel, here’s some recent live video:
Like, speaking of underground stuff, this is right in that morass. And it’s cool! I’m not a huge ska person myself, but I am a product of an era and everybody who was sentient for a while in the late 90s remembers when ska had its most recent moment in the sun (Third Wave, if I’m remembering it correctly). I say that because I feel pretty okay saying that this is a perfectly cromulent bit of ska given an idol varnish. Miyu fronts it well!
They don’t have a ton of stuff online, mostly some videos on YouTube and some additional stuff on the project’s website. But hey, get your skankin’ shoes ready and have a fun-ass Monday.

Hereby setting a new record for the fastest that somebody’s commented on a post! 🙂
If you want more ska you might want to try a bit of Maboroshii Karen GeNE. Some of their stuff pushes it quite hard.
Right, I’ve seen them around a time or two. Definitely adding to the queue.
Batten Shoujotai. Batten Shoujotai. Batten Shoujotai.
FINE.
😉
