Using This New MV to Promote NEO BREAK a Bit

I’m not going to manually count them right now — because like some kind of Talmudic observance of the Word, I fear that if I were to actually try to sum up all of the idol things that have been posted about on this here website in the past 5+ years, it would be at the very end, and I’m not ready for that yet — but we’ve covered a lot of idols, one way or another. Some of them we follow the way they should be followed, as the (relative) big deals that they are; others we follow with perhaps far more fervor than they “deserve,” which is a pretty lousy value judgement to make about anything you ostensibly like, but nonetheless kind of checks out when the object in this case flames out of existence after a few months and all we’re left with is recriminations; and others we highlight, and then hope for, but for all that hoping the thing that attracted you to them in the first place just never quite relights the same way.

That is not to place NEO BREAK all the way into that last category, though it’s certainly applicable — I haven’t blogged a post about them in something like 30 months, and prior to that it was only a few little posts stretching back to when the group was known as Jeanne Maria. Instead, they’ve been prime Weekender material, a group that you might get into if “idols that are loud” led you toward “idols that are sometimes kind of loud in the way that people who mosh at a Dave Matthews Band concert think of ‘loud.'” Because I like them, see, and always figured more of you all either did or would. They just weren’t doing much loud enough to want to spend a post on them.

And so anyway, this blipped into existence last week:

Man, that is some straight-up idorock. We don’t get a ton of it anymore, not like we did a few years ago when every producer looking for an angle would pick between I Need You To Learn How To Growl and Or Maybe Let’s Do The Idol Version Of Dad Rock, so “SUPER NOVA” here is kind of refreshing. As for why it exists? Don’t know, and it doesn’t matter. Just listen to the dang thing and get into a NEO BREAK mood, maybe take a stroll through their back catalog. It’s Friday, man.
