The other day, I wrote this:
Nothing will ever teach you more about the permanence of flux & the nihilism of the universe than following @goodbyeidol. Absoultely brutal

Typo notwithstanding, I’ll stand by that; every time I see a new tweet from @goodbyeidol, my butt clenches up a little bit. WHO’S IT GONNA BE THIS TIME?! Mostly, it’s idols nobody seeing this post has ever heard of; every now and again, though, it’s a group you know that’s going to disband, or even just a particular member on her way out.
Such was the case here. One half of the cool idol groups from Yamaguchi, 30POSSE, is saying goodbye to their leader:

Ayaka’s still got two full months in the group, but one of the most interesting placements I’ve ever seen is coming to an end. FWIW, this was teased over the summer, when they did their Korea gig and were talking about the new member in a “taking over” kind of context. She has been on the shelf, so to speak, but that’s something that can happen for a lot of reasons. Here, it was to set up her graduation.
Why is the Ayaka thing kind of weird? If you look at their (badly in need of updates) website, every other member has their birth year listed, including a 1999. Ayaka, on the other hand, is 199x; seeing her and thinking about that, you could be forgiven for thinking she’s in her mid-20s leading a group of regularly aged idols. That’s not out of the question, but it is interesting and it makes me think that, like Megumi in Zenbu Kimi no Sei Da, she’s part of the management team, too.
Anyway, here’s some more recent 30POSSE.
