Yurapico launched her career as a solo idol just days ago and it’s already off to a fantastic start. The current member of APOKALIPPPS and former member of Guso Drop and BURST GIRL dropped the announcement of her solo project on Monday and has since held her introductory live and released two singles and two MVs.

Though we’re still in recovery from the recent dissolution of BURST GIRL, Yurapico sprang a surprise announcement on us revealing the next phase of her career. Too soon? Too bad!! All Good Things Explode: BURST GIRL Announce Dissolution

In the latest episode of “COVID Ruins Everything”, BURST GIRL’s international debut has been postponed to never.  The strongest and most crazy punk idols have unexpectedly announced that they will be disbanding two weeks from now on the third of October. While three years and eight months is not a bad run for a fully self-produced, self-managed idol unit, for many of us (and the world at large), the end is coming far too soon.

Like many of you, we eagerly jumped on the BURST GIRL bandwagon from the moment of their creation having known Boss Rei, Miyako, Rinchama and Yurapico from the legendary indie-punk unit and Heaviest Idol in The World, Guso Drop.  When manager and producer Daichi-san announced Gudro’s disbandment because he couldn’t figure out how to make money with the group, the four idols must have decided they could do a better job than that, and took things into their own hands.  Continue reading

Yeah New BURST GIRL Song Woo

In which our hero continues to share the things despite lacking energy to share the things like usual

New BURST GIRL song! Written by Yurapiko! This makes me happy in several ways, all of which are being subsumed by the awesome wall of humanity and shared passions that is sucking up all of my time and attention and life this week. And it’s only Tuesday!

Anyway, I have to ask: #YuraSmile wrote the lyrics, but who wrote the music? I ask because I want to know exactly how indie Guso Drop BURST GIRL is these days, and to what extent they’ve embraced DIY. It’s a simple spectrum, ranging from Hatsune Miku at the one extreme and Beni making her own zines on the other. Yes, this is what keeps me up at night.

The Friday Fun Would Make the Joker Wince

Kerrie was off and running with this before I even knew what was happening. It’s terrifying. But she didn’t get around to finishing her homework, so here’s last week’s #AltIdolNewsShow results.

Back to Kerrie

You know what I really love about Guso Drop’s Yurapiko? Every live, no matter what, she’s smiling. She’s got that big goofy grin that makes me smile too. No matter what, when she’s on stage, it’s there, impossible to wipe off. The smile is Yura.

For your average idol, a perma-grin like that is everything. “Smile more when you’re performing” is a criticism a lot of idols hear from their managers, so for any other idol group, Yura would look both adorable and professional.

But when she’s in Guso Drop? That smile is terrifying. Continue reading
