This Is a Short Post about Wonder Lander

It’s possible that no unit in idol has, over the now nearly five years of Weekendering, made more appearances as the Idol in Focus than Wonder Lander. Which is a huge shame, actually! Wonder Lander’s a cool group. It’s just that we usually get material from them in little bits and pieces, so maybe but annually do we actually make a whole-ass post out of them. This is one of those times!

And the occasion is that there are some newer tracks that I’ll share from various sources so it’s easy to follow them on many platforms!

Wonder Lander Keeps Rewarding Me for Liking Them

This post is all messed up. It was supposed to be a straightforward celebration of all things Wonlan and their current releases and motivating you to give them a go if you haven’t already several times, written yesterday no less, except that I drafted the whole middle bit and left off the ends and now I can’t remember which witticisms were used to do what, so how about this: You go look at this MV, which is new to the Wonder Lander corpus, and you get all “oh neat I like this” as is appropriate, and then you continue through the post because there’s more to it, and if you can figure out the context for yourself then you win a prize, which will be determined by Chris at his convenience. So go for it:

This is a journey, man

I See That Wonder Lander Has Been Busy

I’m trying to remember my first Wonder Lander post. It very may well have been all the way back in Year 1, which is pretty wild considering the volume of disbandments among groups that were covered in that era (let’s call it the peak of Loudol 2.0, the Wonder Years), and all of the various membership ins and outs of Wonlan itself over that time. I sort of always felt that the group was destined for the same fate that ultimately befalls all idol projects … and yet, here we are, round about four years (I guess) since the first time I heard them, liked them, shared them, and a thing called Wonder Lander definitely still exists.

Different though! My very literal first thought was “oh wow, the group’s like a whole different thing now.” The most important thing of course being the music, which is, like, different! Not wholly so, mind you — Wonlan’s always been good for about 50:50 cool rock-like tunes and more conventionally idol material — but different maybe in the distribution of what they’re doing in relation to the core. You, obviously, can be the judge:

Wonder Lander Springs Anew

Ah, Wonder Lander, part of Maniac’s official Seasonal Guilty Pleasures list, a group so hard to define that I often just land on “like if college radio and VH1 had a baby before VH1 got kind of cool.” This is an awkward post about them, and not because it’s not positive (it’s entirely positive!) but because, well, I hadn’t even noticed that they weren’t active, seeing as how they were posting live photos less than two weeks ago, but I caught this out of the corner of my eye last week:

What what the heck’s going on? I don’t know, not completely, but they’re clearly now a duo, and (probably for contractual reasons) they’ve made a pretty clean break from prior regimes, even though Aya’s still with the team and possibly physically incapable of ever leaving. But that sort-of purge of the group’s up-and-down history means a whole bunch of new-sounding stuff on their Soundcloud!

These Two New Tracks from Wonder Lander Are Solid

There were two surprise music things in my stream this morning: Eminem’s Kamikaze album of diss tracks, and these two demos from Wonder Lander.

Yeah, Wonder Lander! When was the … holy smokes. I mean, they’ve popped up in the Weekender a-plenty during the past year, but you’d think that I’d do something more for one of my personal guilty pleasure idol groups. I have to admit that I don’t even know where the membership stands vs. its original iteration anymore!

Just enjoy the dang songs.

Here Are Two Fresh Wonder Lander Tracks

What a weird day in chika idol; the YAMIAME thing happens, and Wonder Lander, who insists that they have four members despite still only doing anything with two of them, drops a pair of songs on Soundcloud

Here’s a Wonder Lander Interview … en français!

I’m clearly not the only person in the West who likes idols and also likes to write about idols and who also wishes more people would get into Wonder Lander — Passion Idol, from the francophonie, is right there with me. Yeah, it’s in French, but that’s way easier to read via machine translation than Japanese. Also, give Gru! a follow!

Also, because I will start breaking arms if more of you all don’t get behind Wonder Lander, I’m going to force-feed you this awesome playlist:

They’re great, okay!

This Is a Really Nice New Song from Wonder Lander

I had originally missed that Wonder Lander had published this new track, but hitting Soundcloud to get that sick Alloy number showed it in my feed, and I am rather devoted to Wonlan, and it is Sunday, meant for easier things, so of course I thought that it’d be a nice addition:

Not quite as nice as I was prepared for! Continue reading

This New Wonder Lander Track Will Get You Dancing

Here’s a neat little treat from the weekend: Wonder Lander, who fit in on the easier side of things normally and Maniac why do you like them so much I just do okay, dropped a fresh track onto Soundcloud:

It’s a Winter Wonder Lander!

Lots of new stuff this week, friends, so much that it’s going to trickle over into next week at least because I’ll be hot gosh-darned if I’m going to do multiple introductions in a single day.

Today’s little discovery? Meet Wonder Lander (Twitter) (Soundcloud!). I’m bringing them into the mix because it’s nice sometimes to have some mom-approved rock songs done by chic idols, sort of like if you had uijin tone it down a little.
