Your Homicidols Weekender #229

Good morning! I hope you all had as … cathartic a week as I did. Busy as hell? Yes. A great deal of things accomplished? Also yes. Making big steps in personal right directions? Man, I tell you yes. Good feelings and moods abound.

And look! It’s the elbow of the year unless you’re in a polar or equatorial region, so regardless of if you’re enjoying spring (yay us!) or fall (boring people on the other side of the planet), put that energy to good work! Go hike or garden or bike or something. Hell, it’s raining here and all I want to do is go outside and run around, especially because Fiancee had to jet for a couple of days and I’m sitting here with way too much antsiness to do or be anything that approaches productivity. I just wanna fun!

So if your idea of fun includes idol at some point of some day, then you can take this Weekender and just really dig into it. I actually held some stuff out because I want to have more to talk about later! No, it wasn’t a terribly productive week, but it was good enough and frankly there are so many more significant idol lives nowadays that you’re almost tripping over good video anymore. Just watch the heck out of it!

O– Okay?

This is pretty much it for KOTO, so:

Your Homicidols Weekender #228

What a week! I don’t want to speak for anybody else, but I thought idol had some of that old energy back these past few days. Significant graduations and debuts and motherhubbard April Fool’s Day right on the heels of the kind of fandom drama that we don’t ever have enough of, largely because it unfolds when I’m asleep or busy and then I get to come back later and judge everybody for their dumbass takes.

April Fool’s is one of the best days on the idol calendar, more or less wedged between Halloween and Easter, and we do mention some of the jokes from this year below the fold, but also? We fucking won that shit this year, gang. Or I should say, Daemon did, not only delivering timely, trenchant, devastating satire but having that become the single most popular post in Homicidols history that wasn’t brigaded by Kamen Joshi fans. What a destroyer of a post. I did tell him that if he got to X number of RTs and likes, I’d convince Mare A Komachi to come out of hiding/retirement, but I’ve had to move those goalposts a couple of times already. IF YOU HAVEN’T YET AMPLIFIED THIS AND DO WANT TO SEE WHAT KOMACHI IS UP TO, HELP US GET TO 100 RTS AND 200 LIKES.

The only bad thing about doing great things is that you’re then under a lot of pressure to keep delivering. Guess we’re just going to have to keep writing good posts!

Now That’s Funny

None of us had the wherewithal to take on Zenbu Kimi no Sei Da’s new rendition of “World End Crisis” from the new album of re-recordings, so here you go, sans commentary:

Good morning! I hope you’re all doing well. Much to my surprise, yours truly somehow got a vaccine appointment without even trying, so I’m still feeling a bit of the fallout from that, which is a nice way of saying that I was not in any way prepared for the outcome of the WACK auditions (post incoming) and actually did a pretty cruddy job of Weekendering this one. Apologies! It’s mostly video!

You know what’s nice about not really having been privy to Necromageddon 2020? Being subsequently completely unfazed by Necromageddon 2021:

Your Homicidols Weekender #226

Good morning! It’s the first day of spring, which means renewal and opportunity and also that I’m going to be digging holes out back to try to fix the drainage problems and contribute to a bee-healthy local environment with new flowering plants. Just great stuff.

I do want to talk about something important, though, because it really seemed to emerge as a theme this week. I’m not directly referring to the hate crime in Atlanta, but you could include it too. It just struck me that there’s been a lot of loss lately, and that while I’m sure that those who are dealing with it hurt deep down — one friend in particular, I know exactly what he’s going through — I also hope that they can see that while the thing lost can be permanent, it doesn’t mean that the action of loss itself is, and that the raw, ragged emotions that come with it can and will smooth out. This is of course extremely relevant to anybody who follows idol; even those of us who consider themselves somewhat immune to the emotional investments can still be thrown for a loop when a particular person or project goes away. Any kind of loss is traumatic to one degree or another, and even the loss that’s more of a relief than anything else, even that loss often brings catharsis in the most literal literary sense with it.

Anyway, if you’re hurting, know that people care about you and about how you feel, and you can and should talk to people about the tough stuff. And if maybe you aren’t there yet, then do things you enjoy. The worst thing that can happen is that maybe you have some laughs for a little while and a lift of the spirit.

Good morning! Your friendly neighborhood Maniac is in a completely different neighborhood this weekend, and spring is ever so furtively trying to be in the air (which has rendered Fiancee a completely useless allergic mess), so things are feeling pretty good, gang. Can’t lie. And there’s so much idol that I almost don’t know what to do with it because I get to use a fully functional computer to address it for once! There’s espresso on the table and a protein bar in my belly and so much damn music.

Good morning! And welcome back to Saturday! I was about to write, I can’t believe February’s almost over, but uh we’re a full week into March. As a colleague joked during a meeting yesterday, it’s another sign that the official motto of 2021 should be “good enough, I guess.”

I don’t have anything important to say — just stay well, stay hale, stay safe — so let’s just get right to it!

You Never Do

Good morning! Or, if you live in (say) Texas, I really do hope that you’re having a good morning because power has been restored, your pipes are unfrozen and imminent threat of danger is no longer necessarily a thing at home. What a week. We had two separate “storms” here in the National Capital Region, one of which was billed as It Will Ice So Much That Your Trees Will Come Down (note: trees still standing) and the other, the tail end of the system that obliterated the aforementioned Texas and many other points in between because we didn’t get the polar vortex, went from OMG 8 INCHES OF SNOW AND ICE to me scraping less than 1 full inch of icy slush from the driveway. I love myself some good winter snows and we haven’t had much in that way the past few years, so … get your act together, Mid-Atlantic Winter.

Big week in idol, too, which is going to seem like a weird thing to say because this isn’t the thiccest Weekender we’ve ever put on, but there are a whole mess of posts to follow because basically everybody chose the past handful of days to put out things that we’d want to talk about in much more depth than, well, the Weekender. Those’ll be coming over the next few days. Homicidols Hot Takes, get ’em while they’re HOT!

You all stay safe and well, please and thanks. If you need to hunker down with the DAIDAIDAI EP that’s like minutes away at this point, do it.

Idol in Focus

This week’s Idol in Focus is Sugarpills because they keep teasing and even releasing new music but not actually doing it in ideal media for sharing:

Bonus in Focus

I did some math and I might get to this new Kolokol MV in several weeks’ time, better to give it some air when it’s still fresh:

Also, new costumes!

Obligatory NEOJAPONISM, who are welcome to release another album soon:

Your Homicidols Weekender #221

Good morning! I don’t have a whole lot to say by way of intro because I want to do most of the work in the next post that just so happens to be a milestoner, so I’ll refrain from the observances. Instead, let’s acknowledge the we get the rare weekend Valentine’s Day this year … while in the middle of an unrelenting pandemic and the dead of (northern hemisphere) winter with various assaults by cold and ice in the mix. DID YOU SEE WHAT HAPPENED IN TEXAS! People shouldn’t be allowed to drive. If you’re valentinesing it this weekend, have fun and be safe.

And now to avoid getting too deep into reflections and stuff, let’s get to it!

Your Homicidols Weekender #220

Good morning! Or, I hope your morning is good. Mine is not for several reasons, the least of which being that my trusty ol’ laptop that’s been with me since when I first started to publish posts about idols on this here website, the laptop that I’m gamely coaxing through the rest of today’s posts, is basically all the way dead now. I hope this isn’t RIP.

This was also a rough week (I hope yours was better!), and I realized this morning that it’s very near the anniversary of my second hiatus last year. I am a SAD sufferer, or I should say a lifelong SAD-deal-wither because I always took malaise and depression during the winter months for granted until fairly recently and always think I have bigger fish to fry when it comes to mental health stuff. And you’d think I’d learn! Hiatus the First? Entirely due to stress! The Second? A combination of factors that all came down to my brain saying that it didn’t want to do the thing. This past week wasn’t all that exceptional other than a need to tidy up and organize some work-related stuff, and various interventions that frustrated another project that I recently started; idol blogging time being a morning ritual at this point, you’d think that I could make do, but alas, friend, I did not. Just no real motivation! So: Take care of your brain, give yourself the breaks you need, do pleasurable things for those little dopamine kicks. It’s literally for your overall health and will make other things better.

You’re here for idol, and while this wasn’t the most raucous week in the scene by any stretch, it was still good enough for a halfway decent time-waster! Continue reading

Your Homicidols Weekender #219

OH MY GOODNESS WE MADE IT. The hell month to end all hell months (and, after a year’s worth of hell months, that’s saying something) comes to an end this weekend with … the most significant snowfall my area has seen in several years. Fantastic. Couldn’t be happier. Definitely not indicative of anything. Definitely not mad that I didn’t jump on GameStop stock on Tuesday like I was very strongly urged to, and that the whole reason I didn’t was that I was too busy with work to do it then and “I’ll get it tomorrow” didn’t happen either and at that point it was effectively too late. Cest la vie.

I hope you’re all doing well, and maybe even made some cash screwing over those whose entirely livelihood is screwing you! I also wish that this edition of the Weekender could have a closer tie-in to current events, but … no. It’s just a Weekender, hopefully a fun one for you. And if you’re getting up to a foot of snow between tomorrow and Monday like I am, well, let’s all listen to our favorite idol classics while shoveling together!
