Fresh off their one-year anniversary, SIPP are celebrating with some EDM on their second single since rebranding from “Super Idol Pops Punk” to “Super Idol Punk Party”. Featuring lyrics created by founding member, Ui, and a retro MV channeling the Y2K, here’s “SPIN4CH”:

SIPP’s Ui Makes a Solo Play for MV-of-the-Year with “Wonderful Trip”
I’ve been trying to wrap up work and get packed so I can get on a plane for the first time in two years and fly out to Los Angeles for ATTARASHI GAKKO!’s U.S. debut at Head in the Clouds Festival. Unfortunately, I keep get distracted by Twitter notifications of idols doing idol things. By far, the most disruptive item has been the unanticipated unveiling of this solo project from Ui of SIPP. It’s been so disruptive in fact that I’m putting my travel preparations on hold entirely so I can bang out this post on Ui’s solo debut, appropriately entitled (for my purposes anyway), “WONDERFUL TRIP”.
The New SIPP Single Is Awesome
This website is very pro-SIPP, to the point where I’m very comfortable saying right now that they’re the best debut of 2021 so far and will be very hard to dethrone. “3 or Two” is their latest single, out this past week, and frankly if this one doesn’t convince you that they’re as legit as it gets and gods be good future mainstays we’ll be talking about for years, I don’t know if we can be friends:

Talent across the roster, excellent diversity of voices, very little in the way of gimmicks, somehow elevating both the “pop” and “punk” parts of their theme beyond what anybody else is doing with either, absolutely masterful hook … there are other groups doing good pop punk, and some do it very well at that, but is anybody doing it better than SIPP? Friend, I think not.

A few months ago we first featured SIPP (Super iDOLS Pops Punk), a new unit out of Osaka that sprinted from obscurity to song-of-the-year contender on the strength of their debut single, “dawn”. With an introduction that unbelievably good, we were trying not to let expectations for SIPP’s follow-up run too irrationally high. There have been any number of groups over the years that stormed in with a dynamite debut and then just faded into the ether. Still, during this week of A-list music releases, the most highly anticipated song for many of us was the second single and MV from these rookies:
It’s time to get irrationally excited again. Continue reading
