Oshi Digest #43: Road Trip

Our diminutive hero of a new Official Oshimen, Saki of 2&, is hitting the road. No, her first performances in the West are officially done, and she’s back in Japan (read her impressions!). Instead:

Nagoya! Whatever for? Continue reading

Oshi Digest #42: It’s Saki Time!

Yes, friends, in a shocking conclusion that absolutely nobody could have seen coming because there was definitely zero prior planning to facilitate it no siree bob, Saki of 2& and ex of Guso Drop is the new Official Oshimen of Homicidols.com by dint of her stunning sneak-attack victory over Sari from NECRONOMIDOL the other night in London. Truly one of the great Judas moments in history! And we are the beneficiaries!

Before diving in to the Sakixperience, just to reiterate, she’s going to hold this title for at least the next month and change, until the next Queen of the Scene competition. Because incumbency matters, I’m going to tilt the scales a bit in Saki’s favor, give her a genuine advantage over the competition. Oshi’s Edge, let’s call it. And if Saki can hold on despite the challenge, she’ll be in position to keep the title for up to a year, barring the next Money in the Bank briefcase holder pulling a … well, pulling a Saki and catching her at an inopportune time.

With all of that out of the way, let’s get down to the Digest! Continue reading

Kerrie Interviews Idols: 2&

The BLACK WINDS OVER ALBION tour wasn’t all wotagei and sudden friend-betraying crown theft; it was also a chance for Homicidols.com to get a little bit closer to some of the idols we’ve been covering since the very beginning. Official WACK Meme and UK Idol Tour Interview Correspondent Kerrie was at the show in Manchester and got to connect with everybody. Here’s the first installment.

Saki’s set was the first and the shortest of the night, much like how she was also the shortest idol of the night. (I’m sorry!) But what she lacked in height she more than made up for with her intense stage presence.

This woman is a powerhouse. Even backstage, while I was in the middle of interviewing Necroma, I spotted her out of the corner of my eye jumping up and down on the spot. She is a bundle of energy, both on-stage and off.

She did seem a little nervous once it came to the actual interview part, as she read her answers for me in English from her notebook, but to be honest, I was probably even more so. I’ve strongly admired Saki ever since discovering Guso Drop (one of my top three favourite units up until they disbanded last year), and now we were stood in a hallway (the quietest place we could find) speaking in English. But like the other idols I spoke to that night, she was really sweet in person, and an incredible performer on-stage.

Her set was wild! At one point I thought my ribs would get crushed by the Japanese wota who were behind me! She knows how to fire up an audience, that’s for sure! 100 percent worth the injury scare, would highly recommend, but maybe wear armour if you’re small and easily-breakable, she’s a powerful girl. It’s a Money in the Bank Sneak Attack!

1-2-3 and it’s over! Your NEW QUEEN OF THE SCENE IS 2& SAKI!

WHO COULD HAVE SEEN THIS COMING!

On the final night of accompanying NECRONOMIDOL on their BLACK WINDS OVER ALBION tour, Saki of 2& has revealed her true intentions for tagging along — she’s CASHING IN HER MONEY IN THE BANK BRIEFCASE AND CHALLENGING NECROMA’S SARI FOR THE TITLE OF QUEEN OF THE SCENE AND OFFICIAL OSHIMEN OF HOMICIDOLS.COM!

The guaranteed-anytime contract in Saki’s briefcase doesn’t say much, but it does say that this matchup is scheduled for one fall, and that it’s on a two-hour time limit. So! Between right now and MIDNIGHT LONDON TIME, place your votes for who’s winning this matchup and gets to hold the title! Continue reading

I Believe That It Can Now Be Confirmed That the New 2& Single Is Great

“Naw,” I said, thinking of money spent and unspent and obligations looming, “I’ll have to pass.”

That right there was me a few weeks ago when offered a chance to score a copy of Saki’s latest 2& single. I like Saki’s work, quite a bit in fact, but the truth is that I make so few actual purchases of idol CDs, and “lately” has been a really long time of not wanting to splurge on things that didn’t necessarily need to be splurged on. I talk myself through these moments by focusing on what’s right in front, by ignoring the Fear Of Missing Out that led Young Maniac to make all kinds of terrible, impulsive decisions, and I look for (almost always legal and morally sound!) ways to access new music. Hell, ask the poor guy who thought he was going to sell me a whole mess of sure-to-be-difficult-to-acquire-in-the-future Yanamyu stuff recently; I don’t have a polite, family-friendly metaphor for how hard I pulled out of that discussion once the dollar amounts started to get kicked around.

Anyway! Saki. Her single is out, and she has a new MV to promote it! Continue reading

2& Day: 22 Songs Lasting 2 Hours 22 Minutes On 2/2

5:00 a.m. Outside, snow. Not only did I have to drag myself to work , I then somehow had to get myself from there to Meguro with very little time to spare. Luckily, through some fortuitous turn of events, the snow melted faster than it fell and so my road home was relatively clear. And then the road to the station was even more so. So clear, in fact, that every traffic light I reached turned green upon me reaching it.

I ended up being early on every train I had planned to be on, and so rather than going straight to Meguro, I headed to Ikebukuro with Dean to get the best karaage in the world. It’s also the shop that does weird collaborations with Alice Project, though their normal karaage is far better than those could ever be. Amusingly the shop’s history with Alice Project caught up with us, as Maipuu (to me she’ll forever be “minefield”) turned up as we were waiting, recognised Dean (who used to visit PARMS far too frequently) and then hid behind a corner until we disappeared. I guess she was there to stick her feet in the batter or something.  Continue reading

Bless Your Rocking Heart, 2&

Okay, I’ve been complaining a lot. Imagine being the podcast guys! I can horse around in WordPress for 15 minutes and make a thing happen — they have to plan out a whole show and then do all the graphics and video and stuff, so lulls in idol season must be an extra level of hell, or at the very least annoying.

I’m done complaining for a minute because 2& dropped this wonderful gem on the world yesterday, and it’s all that I need right now:

Punk rock as hell? She made the entire thing herself with the camera on her cell phone; you tell me. Continue reading

2! 2 2& PVs! Ha Ha Ha!

If you don’t like Sesame Street, you can eat one

Hey team! It’s been a mess of a morning, but I didn’t want to let it get away without a proper Thursday Hurtsday entry; and, thanks to a friend, I’m even changing up my original plans.

One of last year’s toughest graduations was Saki from Guso Drop. It was all a positive career move over all, and has so far led to some fairly wild stuff from the new blood among the Heaviest Idol in the World, plus good developments for Saki in her solo guise as 2&.

TY Pukovnik Krv!

Fittingly, it’s two videos in one!

Yesterday Was 2& Day; How’s Saki Doing, Anyway?

Yes, folks, 2/2 is Twin Tails Day in Japan, and you probably saw idols great and small rocking their double ponytails and doing their own version of kawaii as idol-hard as possible.

But 2/2 is also notable for having two 2s. Almost as if … double … and … ?

Yep, it’s 2& Day!

Much more interesting, if you ask me. Continue reading

Say, How’s Saki Doing in Life after Guso Drop?

When it was announced that Saki, the group’s original center, was graduating from Guso Drop at the end of last year, folks were understandably upset — for as much as Boss Rei is the spiritual heart of the group (and, you know, also the boss), Saki was its soul, a true singer who could bring the screams and shouts with the best of them. They even retired her color along with her.

It was also taken with a grain of salt; Saki’s departure from Guso Drop wasn’t an end for her, but a change, as she’d be shifting her career permanently to her other project, 2&. You can even look at her final live with Guso Drop as the end of an era for the group more than for her.

Anyway, now doing 2& full-time, Saki is able to keep doing what she loves, and we get to keep watching her do it. Continue reading
