Digging for idol media can be one of the most rewarding experiences you can find. I’m not talking about popping open YouTube and Group X that publishes every other week has a new single to hawk; I’m talking about finding out about awesome new acts because of the Twitter behavior of other obscure idols you just happened to notice, or things from idols you had almost forgotten existed suddenly showing up in your YouTube subscriptions. I say it because that’s exactly what happened! I was checking on Weekender stuff lo not quite a week ago and saw a name I hadn’t noticed next to the letters “MV” in damn near forever, so I smashed that left mouse button and was treated to, well, this. Holy Shit, Pikarin
If It Were Possible to Slowly Back Away Online, I’d Be Doing It from Pikarin
Pikarin dropped a new video yesterday! It appears that she has contributed music to a TV show, a show that she is even in(?), and we can listen to it and look at it and wow, it’s been a little while since we had new things from Shiina, it feels like, maybe we should be really stoked and just dive right in without so much as half a care, willy-nilly sacrificing our brains to what’s sure to be a completely charming, inoffensive bit of music accompanying a straightforward PV!
The New Pikarin Is Dark and Heavy as Hell
Oh, friends. Friends! It’s not every day that Pikarin is a featured figure on Homicidols.com, but when she hits the nail on the head, it’s like a piledriver … as some recently released live video can attest!
Start it off at 12:38 for the new, or enjoy the whole thing because why not!
There’s even more! Continue reading
I’m Nominating Pikarin for Collaboration of the Year, Holy Crap
This is a great example of why you should get on Twitter and follow idols, yes, if you want to learn about idols, but why you should also follow people who know about idols, because it’s the random things that sometimes send you straight to gold.
In this case, I refer to @deadgrandma, a Person Who Knows Things and has been around a little bit, who sometimes refers to things that I’ve never heard of. This sends your dutiful Maniac to look up the reference, which often leads to neat personal discoveries but, fortunately(?), not so much on the idol side. Until, UNTIL my friends, until the other day when a familiar word — Pikarin — was in the tweet, and … well, this was the result:
Fashion Fortnight Flash #1
Hello friends! Maniac here. Papermaiden had such a good time with that NSLE interview that I said, pitch me an idea for something that you’d like to write regularly, and she said, I want to write about fashion and stuff, and I said, knock yourself out, I bet people will like that. So give it a read and let her know what you think!
Welcome to Fashion Fortnight. In this bimensual column, you’ll find a (very self-indulgent) summary of what happened with idols in their para-musical jobs related to subculture and modelling. You may think of the Flash-type columns as a way to assemble all the great visual publications you’ve missed because you weren’t looking! In the Fashion Fortnight Features, you’ll find (most likely self-indulgent as well) more focused investigations into a specific topic or item that has been all the rage and is related to our beloved Homicidols.
Without further ado, get the links and some previews after the jump! Continue reading
So It Turns out That Pikarin Can Play Nicely with Others
Happy Saturday, gang! It’s not yet May, but we’re about to have our first 90-degree day of the year, and of course all that travel lately means that ol’ Maniac gets to celebrate said bullshit-hot day by going outside to do lots of yard work and stuff!
So we can all have something to enjoy, here’s live Pikarin that not all young women are at the mercy of Shiina when she performs — some of them even perform with her!
It doesn’t even involve any biting or groping!
I Had an Even Better Reaction to Pikarin’s Latest
And speaking of videos that came out yesterday and I temporarily had to shelve in the interests of time, Pikarin joined Guso Drop in making good on a teaser video for her most recent release:
Man, I think we got played! Continue reading
What Happens When the Nicest Idols Meet the Creepiest Ones?
I’m beginning to take an interest in the Hello! Project. So sue me. No, I’m not going to let Kerrie corrupt my fragile homicidol mind; instead, I’m going to embrace every tradol’s foray into the world of darkness, and I’m going to celebrate it for all of its awkward and/or noisy goodness.
Please do forgive me for not citing my source on this one, as I can’t remember where it came from, but: Have you ever wondered what would happen if Morning Musume were to be counseled by the likes of Pikarin?
Skip ahead a bit to get to the magic
It’s a Lazy Weekend, So Here Are Some Video Teasers
It says “lazy weekend,” but my goodness was it a dull week, too. I’ll put it this way: I judge the overall strength of everybody’s interest in what’s going on by the amount of traffic that comes through these parts, and I have FANCY MATHEMATICAL FORMULAE to account for crazy business like the Corenament, so as long as certain baselines are being hit or surpassed, or the baselines are being consistently beaten (and therefore should be adjusted), I feel like I’m doing my job and idol is good and interesting and great.
This past week, though … I mean, at this point, I shouldn’t be struggling to find content to share, you know? I follow what feels like half of idol, friends are always sending over referrals, the Facebook groups and whatnot are going strong. There’s always something. Except when there isn’t! Like what happened this week! Or, at least, less than we’d like to be able to see.
Ergo, while I completely quietly made an editorial decision a little while back to not push out video teasers as main posts a little while ago (BECAUSE THERE’S SO MUCH STUFF JUST WAIT FOR THE REAL THING, MANIAC!), instead preferring them for the Weekender, I am immediately going back on that because dammit, we all need things to enjoy, even a little bit. It’s Saturday. It’s spring (except for you goofs in the Southern Hemisphere). We want loud idol stuff! Continue reading
