Homicidols Best: Cal’s Top Ten Favorite Idol Songs of All Time

Hey there, Cal here. I’m Homicidols’ pin-up mascot, treasurer and I also lie for fun sometimes. I don’t normally write in first person so forgive me if I seem like a fish out of water. If you read the first entry in our personal top 10’s series, you’ll see Dae mention that I had this idea thinking it’ll be fun and it ended up being a little gruelling. He was 100% correct, I like too many songs to pick just 10! It’s like drawing blood from a stone, a really sexy stone with immaculate music taste.

When it comes to things like this, I prefer to separate things into different categories such as “music that has a personal meaning for me” or “music to touch the stove to” or “music that makes me want to run screaming into traffic.” I listen to a lot of idol songs, like a lotttttt, so in the end, I just ended up picking the best of the best from various criterias. So this list kind of ended up being a mix of the sentimental to the slappers. Please enjoy it.

An Emotional Monday Match Game

It’s Monday, so let’s get emotional!

The idea for this match-up was sparked a couple weeks ago when the fabulously-named On the Treat Super Season dropped their latest (excellent) single, “Emotion”. That very the same day, melly, over on the Homicidols Discord Server,  recommended GANG PARADE’s “Karada Emotion” for the Homicidols Weekend Radio playlist. This got me thinking about the sheer number of alternative idol songs that incorporate the word, “emotion” into their titles including my favorite track by Q’ulle and that PIGGS tune that keeps getting stuck in my head.

With all of these Emotions vying for our attention, it’s only appropriate we try to sort them out and determine, once and for all, what is the dominant Emotion?

PIGGS vs. PIGGS: We Choose PIGGS

For those out of the loop on the latest droppings from PIGGS, the unit has been drawn into a pitched battle between their indie producer, Ryan B, versus an anonymous major-label hack over the right to produce PIGGS major label debut single.  The two sides in this contest have been separated into the Ryan B-led “TEAM Indie (Poo Poo Land Co., Ltd.)” and “TEAM Major (a certain major label)”. Each team has now produced a single and MV and PIGGS fans have been asked to vote for their favorite.  In the interest of fairness, the teams have been anonymized as TEAM A and TEAM B.

Let’s take a look at the entries:

PIGGS Are Dropping a New Album in December

PIGGS are dropping a new album just in time for Christmas. JUICYY, their first album since adding KINCHAN as a member, will be released on December 22nd.

Here’s a teaser:

The album will include 13 total tracks: six new tunes and seven re-recordings of previous songs with the current lineup. From the above preview, it sounds like the “JUICYY.ver” tracks are slightly new arrangements in addition to incorporating KINCHAN’s vocals.  Continue reading

No One is Doing it Better than PIGGS

If you missed last week’s post or want a refresher of the albums that placed 31st – 40th, you can find that here.

Now, on with the next ten albums in the countdown plus one honorable mention that fell just a little bit short of the top 50:

March of the PIGGS

I’ve just always wanted to title a post this, thanks Lui

The new PIGGS single hits stores in a few days, and mid-last week they released the second MV from it (first), and it’s still not the title track, so that leaves a great deal of hope in there being yet another video coming our way. But for the whole reason that I got a NIN vibe before even listening to the thing, here’s “Piggy”:

I Think We’re Going to Like the New PIGGS Single

Somehow or another, the permanent breakup between BiS and Pour Lui has turned out to be the best thing that could happen to both things — the OG punk idols’ resurrection seemed as likely to be a branding exercise as anything else when they were re-constituted without the founder or any past members at all, yet have been remarkably stable and arguably as good as ever; the OG punk idol herself, the grand dame of this scene, went off and formed a unit that has her fingerprints all over it and, sans some of the pretenses of Lui’s past work, just keeps knocking ’em out of the park.

So yeah, here we are, a second single in as many fiscal year quarters on the horizon, and PIGGS is doing it so good and making it look so easy:

Our girl Saki on the choreo too, if it wasn’t obvious Continue reading

PIGGS’s First Single Is Really Driving Something Home for Me

Yeah, first, I know. But it’s true! PIGGS has only released excellent longer-play material so far; “T.A.K.O.” drops a week from today as the official first single of Pour Lui’s emeritus project.

I’ll tell you: I had no idea what to say about it! You can only complete so many permutations of “it good” before you run out of ways to put some kind of spin on a piece, and “it good” is just padding in a very similar way to how I’m padding out this sentence to increase the post length and give you all some extra bang for your buck. So let’s get it out of the way and talk about something that did strike me, maybe meaningfully, while watching this sucker.
