Your Homicidols Weekender #354

It’s been another busy week in Idol, but it’s about to get busier!

This weekender is, once again, put together by trustee procrastinator Papermaiden, because our overlord Daemon is busy doing what he should do, having fun with Tokyo Psychopath this weekend! On that note, if you are at Saboten Con, come meet us (him)! He is giving the Killer Side of Idol panel on Saturday, September 2 at 11:30.
A rare chance to discuss idols in person!

In the Southwest Today? Go See Daemon Talk!

Hey! Just a quick announcement: Our man Daemon, who does this thing on as regular a basis as anybody that I know, will be at the Tucson Japanese Festival this weekend for not one, not two, but three presentations on contemporary Japanese music, which you just know includes idol!

It’s five bucks. That’s $5! That’s as close to free entertainment as it gets in this day and age, and you’re bound to learn about something new and interesting — D’s got wide-ranging tastes and obvious passion for them. Check it out!

Daemon’s Final Con Spot Is about Origins

Good morning, lovely weirdos! We’ve by now seen all of the rest of Daemon’s panel from Con Nichiwa, where he surveyed the current alt-idol underground and talked up exactly why it’s so awesome.

What was missing so far was Part I, which, as you might have guessed, must include the twisted fairy godmother of them all, the original BiS.

Daemon’s Con Panel Excerpts Are Tools for Winning Converts

The next time a friend, slack-jawed and possibly (probably) inebriated, tries to give you crap about being into idols, the first thing you should do is punch them in the belly for being a jerk. The second thing you should do is try to convert them!

All of these efforts that folks are up to, podcasts and DJ sessions and convention panels, are valuable tools for new people. Remember the “WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?!?!” feeling? Show folks music and video, and they’ll probably get that sense, too, if they aren’t too busy writhing around on the floor because you assaulted them, you maniac.

But after you get that hook established, you can fulfill the desire to know more by showing them certain websites, but also very helpful explainer videos! Continue reading

When It Comes to Making Idol Fans, It’s All about the Fans

Good morning, you goofballs! As you know, our community is growing, and with that growth comes the feeling that many of us have: Holy crap I need to share this with other people!

You know about the podcasts; there’s A-to-J doing the Lord’s work for all things Japan, including lots of idol, and the Alt-Idol Podcast is still churning and growing, too. Subscribe, watch, listen, learn and, above all, interact.

There are other ways to spread the word, too. For instance, as Daemon likes to do, you can host a panel at a convention:

Get Your Con on … Twice! More Daemon at Con Nichiwa

This is exciting; our pal DaeMetal was already going to be running as brutal an idol panel as has ever existed at Con Nichiwa in Tucson, and now he’s adding another:

That’s the Babymetal version; I won’t spoil some of what he told me about it, but suffice it to say that it sounds like a big ol’ space.
Here’s the description: Continue reading

Get Your Con On: Daemon’s Back with the Kawaii Underground

If you folks remember the halcyon, more innocent time of Homicidols.com, your friend and mine Daemon hosted a kawaii metal panel at Con Nichiwa in Tucson. That was almost a year ago! And now:

Love. Continue reading

Get Your Con On: This Is the Most Mature That A-to-J Gets

If you have a hankering to talk about the hard side of idol in a public forum and get a little bit deeper into this weird, wonderful world, AND you happen to be capable of attending Anime Los Angeles (in Ontario [California, not Canada]), here’s your opportunity:

Re: Title, I kid because I love. A-to-J does the Dark Lord’s work out there.

Maybe You Need to Soak It in from Someone Else: A-to-J’s Con Panel

Never let it be said that I don’t love a good panel on the hard side of idol (like Daemon’s!), nor that I don’t enjoy every minute spent talking about idols online with A-to-J (yes, even Manuel!). Nor let it be said that I don’t talk up friends because, come on, we’re all friends here.

But hey look! A-to-J’s team is frequently at various cons for various reasons, and they often do panels, and they often do panels on subjects that we happen to enjoy, and they just shared this video from their appearance at … what the hell is Kraken Con? Like, a seafaring event? Continue reading
