Homicidols Best: Papermaiden’s Top Ten Favorite Idol Songs of All Time

Here is my idol song top 10. I wish I had something witty to say to introduce my list, but I’ll bare my heart in each song’s description instead. I’d just like to say that with the exception of my top pick (somehow!), I have all these songs taking up precious space on my phone because I know I’ll never get sick of any of them. If I could get them into my body for easier listening, I would. That’s how committed I am to each item of this list.

Let’s get to it!

Yukueshirezutsurezure: The End of Not Secured, Loose Ends – Memoir of a Gunjo

I have been having a harder time than anticipated processing the disbandment of Yukueshirezutsurezure on January 2nd. I had previously survived the graduation of Shidare and, just over a year ago when Komachi, the final remaining original member (and my long-time kami-oshi), disappeared for over a month without a word, I assumed that she was nearing retirement herself. So, almost a year ago, I had begun emotional preparations for this prospective eventuality. Apparently I was not as effective as I thought.

This is primarily due to when, half-way through 2020, Tsurezure released Paradox Soar, their freshest and most progressive album in years. On it, they explored new musical genres and, I thought, had well positioned themselves for a post-Komachi Tsurezure under the extraordinarily capable leadership of Mei Yui Mei. That album, on my short list for Best of the Year, buoyed my expectations for the group. These mislaid hopes meant that, when the imminent dissolution of the group was announced at the end of November, the crash of disappointment was from a much more traumatic height. Continue reading

Yukueshirezutsurezure to Disband on January 2, 2021

We ain’t got no words for this right now.

We Review Things: Yukueshirezutsurezure | Paradox Soar

It’s been long awaited. Yukueshirezutsurezure (aka Not Secured, Loose Ends) has spent a lot of time in the studio re-recording songs with the current lineup, leading to BrightDark and DarkBright. But with Paradox Soar, they prove it wasn’t reheating old content for the sake of nostalgia: the unit was being developed under the character of Mei Yui Mei’s leadership, voices were being seasoned and the good stuff was coming.

Paradox Soar, the group’s third full album, has sixteen tracks on its sole edition,  which includes all of the members’ solo songs. The twelve songs with the whole group are split equally between their single releases (including B-sides) and 6 new songs. As a whole, the album covers a wide range of territory that Tsurezure hasn’t delved into before.

There was so much to cover that Papermaiden and DAEMON had to join forces to write this review.

Let’s get into it!

Yukueshirezutsurezure Annouce 3rd Album and Oneman Tour

Just when you thought 2020 was going to be a total waste, Yukueshirezutsurezure have given us something to look forward to. Following their no-audience live Friday night, the unit-also-known-as Not Secured, Loose Ends announced the release of their third full album this coming August 26th.

In an inspired fit of uncharacteristic optimism, Tsurezure also announced an extensive oneman tour starting in late July and wrapping up the day before Halloween.

Yukueshirezutsurezure drop “REDERA” MV on Eve of 7th Single Release

Tomorrow, Yukueshirezutsurezure drop what they are calling a “double-A-Side” single and, if you’ve caught the song previews,  you understand the description.  “Still Roaring” and “REDERA” are two of the best tracks we’ve heard from Not Secured, Loose Ends in a while.

On the eve of this double-barreled release, they have also given us a new MV.

Ska-punk Tsurezure? Yes please.  Continue reading

Yukueshirezutsurezure Drop New Song Preview and Single Release Date

Yukueshirezutsurezure have blessed this Saturday with a preview of their latest song, “Still Roaring”. The song will serve as one half of their latest double A-side single which will be released on March 25th.

If you were unable to listen during the preview window, we snagged a permalink:

It’s gorgeous.

The other A-side of the new single will be “REDERA” which they also previewed recently.

Tsurezure Makes Us All Feel Something Different with “ssixth”

Yukueshirezutsurezure will be dropping their uncharacteristically upbeat single, “ssixth”, this coming Wednesday, July 3rd. To prepare us for this imminent release, these barefoot angels of yami kawaii blessed us with a chilling MV that inspired dueling interpretations around the Homicidols press room.

In it, Mei Yui Mei and the adorable Kotetsu portray gleeful bullies documenting their torment of a passive Takara. Left battered and restrained, Takara is rescued(?) by  opportunistic predator or compassionate fellow victim Komachi.  This is left a bit ambiguous in the blood spattered end as is their final fate. Tsurezure Announces Sixth Single, “ssixth”

Not Secured, Loose Ends have announced that “ssixth”, the group’s sixth single,  will be released on July 3rd and, for some reason, the world suddenly feels like a better place.

I was going to say something else, perhaps about the album art, but thoughts are strangely difficult to put together… Continue reading

The End of an Oshi: Futamaruya Shidare’s Last Live

The Cyclone is a small black box theater in a Shibuya basement which, according to the posters it uses for wallpaper, has played host to gigs by just about everyone over the past 20 years, including Cthonic, Crossfaith, Abigail Williams and every chika idol unit you’ve ever cared about. This past Saturday, it also hosted Yukueshirezutsurezure’s Emergency One Man Live, the emergency being Futamaruya Shidare’s sudden exit from the group.

The Cyclone’s capacity is 300, which seems to have been determined not by some safety conscious fire marshal, but in response to a challenge to see how many people one could stuff into the space, shoulder-to-shoulder, wall-to-wall.
