Using This New MV to Promote NEO BREAK a Bit

I’m not going to manually count them right now — because like some kind of Talmudic observance of the Word, I fear that if I were to actually try to sum up all of the idol things that have been posted about on this here website in the past 5+ years, it would be at the very end, and I’m not ready for that yet — but we’ve covered a lot of idols, one way or another. Some of them we follow the way they should be followed, as the (relative) big deals that they are; others we follow with perhaps far more fervor than they “deserve,” which is a pretty lousy value judgement to make about anything you ostensibly like, but nonetheless kind of checks out when the object in this case flames out of existence after a few months and all we’re left with is recriminations; and others we highlight, and then hope for, but for all that hoping the thing that attracted you to them in the first place just never quite relights the same way.

That is not to place NEO BREAK all the way into that last category, though it’s certainly applicable — I haven’t blogged a post about them in something like 30 months, and prior to that it was only a few little posts stretching back to when the group was known as Jeanne Maria. Instead, they’ve been prime Weekender material, a group that you might get into if “idols that are loud” led you toward “idols that are sometimes kind of loud in the way that people who mosh at a Dave Matthews Band concert think of ‘loud.'” Because I like them, see, and always figured more of you all either did or would. They just weren’t doing much loud enough to want to spend a post on them.

And so anyway, this blipped into existence last week: Continue reading

This Is NEO BREAK’s First Single

And speaking of stuff that I didn’t get around to working on while I was on hiatus, here’s one that I found to be a true personal delight … two weeks ago, when I first saw the video and made a post draft. “A ha,” thought I, “’tis the perfect item to schedule ahead for when I will be detached from the Internet!” So cute of me to think that I’d actually have the time to do all of that, pre or otherwise!

It’s a nice song, though.

This guy was actually released on Sept. 26, so I’ve technically gotten in the post within the opening two weeks of its existence, YouTube publish date of the video (and lack of full MV) be damned. They also had a one-man on the 30th, which I obviously didn’t inform you about despite the big note a few lines down from here that I’m about to delete, because, like, this post is late. Oh, So This Is What Happened to Jeanne Maria

So while cruising around Twitter the other day, looking for some Weekender material, I was reminded of Some Idols We’ve Looked at Before and happened to check up on Maria, which seems to be in some flux but does still exit. Okay good! But what about another group, similarly named, who are also Some Idols We’ve Looked at Before but not often, actually — Jeanne Maria.

Besides showing up for a minute in the Corenament, Jeanne Maria has appeared all of twice. Not really something to concern oneself with! But I do like to keep up, just out of a sense of pride maybe, or because idol is ultimately terminal for the people involved and there’s something validating in knowing how and when and why a group met its fate.

So I went looking. Nothing really on Twitter, other searches in other places mostly turning up old material. Nothing new! So what happened?

Serendipity, my friends. Serendipity happened. Continue reading
