Lol I Wrote the Stupidest Post Never Listen to Me

Good lord, never take a break from a hobby that involves constant evolution of the subject. I just learned — by accident* that WORL’S END is actually reboot/branded Marionet, which upon that revelation makes all the sense in the world and I’m simultaneously laughing and looking for a bucket of paint to drown myself in out of humiliation.

It was a pretty hot post, though, you guys. I won’t share all of its remnants because I’m not a masochist, but it involved repeated declarations of having no prior knowledge of this idol thing that had been around for a couple of years, and outright disbelief at that fact because “I like to think that I had almost all idols of note doing the Fat Wreck Chords thing prior to mid-2019 at least referenced in some memory hole somewhere” which, wew. Yeah. And it was all celebratory about this tweet that I will reference here with no other commentary but may as well at least acknowledge so that you can see the source of my (today’s) idiocy.

The real tragedy here is that I don’t get to use this sentence:

if you ever wanted that guitar tone played like the soundtrack to the kewlest caffeine-free pool party of the summer between your sophomore and junior years of high school, and then added only the shiniest, happiest vocals possible on top of it, friend, you got yourself a stew going right here

In reference to the actual thing that spawned me writing this in the first place:

Although, hey, it looks like I did get to write it, and with context! Holla!

I am an embarrassment to this profession. Cancel Homicidols. Feh.

*It involved the phrase “Oh shit, that’s Fumimi”

Who Do I Have to Kill for the Rest of This Marionet Video?

Man, a lot of things crawled out of the idol woodwork over the past couple of days, quite a few of them fun, even. Notable among them is this clip from Marionet, in honor of their first one-man on Sunday, this energetic little romp with a neat-concepted MV that exists mostly as a tease:

Hey, that’s really cool! But do you know what would be even cooler? Hearing the rest of the dang song and seeing the rest of the dang video! I guess we have to wait until Sunday? Or is it that we won’t get it unless they win this contest thing for the main stage at TIF?

Let’s Catch up with Marionet

So in addition to not being able to blog all the posts I’d like these days, it’s also embarrassingly easy to miss things that I ordinarily would never, ever want to miss. No, I’m not talking about the birth of a child (though: try me); I mean new things and fun things from favorite idol projects of mine. Good thing that I have you guys! Just like how I got saved on the NEMLESS MV, Andrew was kind enough to tug my pant leg and point out that yes, Maniac, you did in fact miss something from Marionet, what is actually wrong with you!

Well.

When we last left our heroines, they had reached that point in their record-promotion schedule where they’d teased like all of the tracks and had their first bona fide MV in hand and were waving it around and loudly encouraging folks to give them an honest chance. It was a good look and a good time! And now that a month has passed, it’s time to … well, it’s time to release a new song for the adoring masses!

Is it on the EP, or is it truly new?

In All Seriousness, Here’s Marionet’s First MV

All right, I think we got that out of our systems. We really sweated it down! Other fitness allusion! Did it work for you? I enjoyed it.

And on that note, let’s get back to serious business! Business that in reality I’m pretty late on, and almost missed until Andrew reminded me, and even then didn’t have the wherewithal to watch completely until Team was neck-deep in putting the finishing touches on this year’s big gag, so unfortunately the first real big visual presentation by Marionet is going to get some short shrift. It’s good short shrift though!

Thanks for Being Anti-Monday, Marionet

I’m not one of those people who’s like “oh man, I got this case of the Mondays!” Monday’s fine, if kind of annoying because yeah, it does in fact mean that it’s back to work on the things that are less interesting than the free time things, but come on, it’s just Monday, how many of them do you have in life? It’s a lot! So pluck up. Plus, everybody knows that Tuesday is the worst.

I do however understand that there can be some trepidation about heading back to work. Bosses may be bad, jobs are often both bad and dumb, commutes are the devil. I can think of a whole lot of things that I’d rather be doing than almost everything that I can for Day Job. For instance, blogging posts about idols! Good thing I’m doing that right now at least!

Marionet, who still have that new car smell and have wonderful novelty (and Fumimi!) going for them, are dropping new tunes with wonderful frequency and left this uplifting new number for us yesterday:

Man, that’s some vocaloid stuff right there

Do Yourself a Favor and Enjoy Every Second of This New Marionet Song

Funny. I take out time the other day to sort of off-handedly complain about this being a boring stretch for idol, typically, as the winter festival season dries up and the talent gets into the meat of the academic calendar … and the last couple of days are just riddled with fresh new music and updates and things that warrant actual by-the-gods excitement. This being a holiday in the United States, I, uh, actually need to do Day Job work, so this is the last entry for today, but my goodness, have you guys heard the new one from Marionet yet?

Marionet Isn’t Slowing Down One Bit

Now that they’ve officially debuted, one could forgive Marionet for going into the usual routine of doing lots of gigs and even performing new songs but not really putting things out into the digital world for broader distribution, seeing as how the crux of idol always falls to the live experience. But no! There’s yet another new song, and it is good and it makes me feel like, of all the good new things moving around in idol these days, this one might have some staying power.

Just a nice, mature song. And, as I mentioned, they debuted the other day; here’s a live clip, even:

Proving that they’re real!

Yeah, I don’t know if this is the best debut of the year, but it’s certainly among the most aggressive and enjoyable. Keep doing you, Marionet.

Yeah, Marionet’s on Fire

Yada yada 2018 reviews yada yada, you get it, I never shut up about this year being some kind of blood infusion for loudol, a statement loaded with dramatic irony after I spent a good chunk of 2017 wondering if the whole little movement hadn’t become passe. Hilarious! And it’s like 2018 is just rubbing it in right now with debuts (or pre-debuts, in many cases) just getting better and better, as proven by the about-to-launch Marionet, home of site favorite Hoshina Fumimi, who latest set off good feelings all over the place:

They can do no wrong! I think I still prefer this one, but what a pair to choose from, you know? Everything we’ve heard from Marionet so far has been at least baseline good, and of that kind of good that you don’t just want to listen to, but you can actively have fun listening to because then you start to bop, and then dance, and then look up pricing for springtime trips to Tokyo so that you can do these things in person and then fork over unfair sums of cash for a photo with Fumimi.

Idol, man!

The Newest Marionet Is All the Fun You Can Handle on a Monday

I hate to be that guy who wags his finger and admonishes people for having independent tastes, for pursuing self-fulfilling interests and activities. I mean, I’m a random American anti-weeb who makes a big ol’ idol website doodad happen. Who am I to judge?

That being said, I’m ashamed of all of you for the insufficiently ecstatic response to the emergence of Marionet, who I remind you haven’t even debuted yet and are already pulling on my heartstrings because, like, they’re putting out music to preview and it’s good!

If the first one was enough to whet your appetite, maybe “Galaxy Dance Dance!” here can slake your thirst in addition:

The cynic in me wants to propose that we have Marionet trade this, at least in part, with BILLIE IDLE, or to find out who crept undetected into Melon Batake a go go’s headquarters to steal this song. What a nice time! Another great example of how old-timey rock n’ roll and idol can go together like lamb and tuna fish peanut butter and jelly. I can only imagine what this looks like on stage, with some semblance of choreography and my girl Fumimi belting out her lines like a boss.

Honestly, it’s a roll of the dice at this point to see who’s the best debut of 2018. The field is incredibly stacked.

These New Idols Ain’t Anybody’s Puppet: Marionet

Man, catching up on stuff has been hard! We’re now fully into idol’s busy season, in case you couldn’t tell, so every time that I think I’m going to be be able to catch up on several older items at once, nope, not happening, too much else going on. I’m not going to complain — in fact, I’m embracing it, because it makes things that I do try to catch up on either faster or in-geological-terms immediately that much more special.

One area for catch-up? New units. There are a lot of them! Many of them pretty good in fact! I must have a couple of dozen that I could be posting up and don’t just because there isn’t time for it all. In some cases, though, I’m making exceptions. Like, for instance, Marionet, who actually haven’t debuted yet, but for whom I’ll make an exception to the usual semi-rule because they’ve at least had the good sense to preview some of their music:

There’s another reason, though, and it’s that the roster includes one very familiar face: Continue reading
