It May Be a Gag, But It Could Also Be My New Favorite Oyaholo Song

April Fool’s Day falls somewhere on the idol holiday ranking spectrum between Halloween and Twin Tails Day, though an argument could be made that more energy and creatively goes into getting a rise out of fans with excellently crafted jokes and spit-takes than into the rest of idol’s annual cycles combined. And as it should be! We here at Homicidols Dot Com clearly enjoy having fun with (and often making fun of) idols and the self-serious loutishness that all too often adheres itself to the scene.

That said, nothing says loving quite like idols embracing the spirit of the day and going all-out in the pursuit of laughs, even at their own expense. And nothing does that better than Oyasumi Hologram absolutely knocking this out of the park:

What’s funny (not in the way that they intend, or maybe!) is that this nods directly at the stripped-down, lilting ethereal work that’s Oyaholo’s calling card at even their rockin’est, but folks who know are well aware of their collaborations with VMO and how frighteningly well August-chan and Kanamil work in a black metal kind of framework. So it’s like a double piss take!

I love this so much, I wish I could frame it.

NECROMA’s 2019 European Tour: Vampire Castles, Loch Ness and HYPER JAPAN

The NECRONOMIDOL EUROPEAN INQUISITION 2019 announcement has dropped, short on dates but full of intriguing details. For those of you within affordable travel distance of London, the one date you will certainly want to save is the mid-July weekend of HYPER JAPAN.

NECROMA will be joining the distinguished ranks of former HYPER JAPAN alumni including Yoshiki and Toshi (X Japan), Dempagumi.inc, friends of Homicidols Mutant Monster and Charisma.com, and site favorite LADYBABY.

In all, Necroma confirmed eight summer gigs in six European countries, including a couple of out-of-the-way spots with some rather esoteric connections. Continue reading

Broken By The Scream: Proof That Idols Can Melt Faces and Put Them Back Together Again

Well if this wasn’t a hell of a thing to wake up to, and by “this” I mean the message from Kerrie that said (I’m paraphrasing) “zomg Maniac new MV from BBTS I think that only a person of your stature and grace can write about that.” This is a good thought! That kind of flattery will definitely get your somewhere!

So without further ado, and I hope as not too much of a spoiler, let me say, let’s take a look at this beast:

So LADYBABY Just Took Me for One Hell of a Ride

Did I miss something out there? There’s been a definite feeling that LADYBABY was about to do something significant — and I very Mandela Effectively could have sworn that I’d seen an announcement for a new single in the last few days — what with the ExEx gigs going down and, I don’t know, more chatter than usual on their channels? Something was up.

It turns out that something is a new MV! With a great big contribution, performatively and creatively from Emily and from HAJIMETAL, and Rie’s fingerprints all over the production. And what a trip it is:

This Is Where le biglemoi Stands Now

A little while back, if you’ll recall, I had an itch of curiosity about a once-up-and-comer from the chika ranks, a certain le biglemoi, and decided to look them up. The timing was good! The group was reshuffling and re-starting, and had some new music to share.

Flash forward to yesterday, when I was trying to contribute to a project of Kerrie’s and was wracking my brain for idols that fit a certain description, and remembered le biglemoi and again found myself looking at their feed, which was … well, frankly, not all that exciting. It was like nothing had happened since the last time, and that’s fine, man, idol needs to idol on its own time sometimes.

However, as it turned out, in this case I was actually a tiny bit early, and le biglemoi had some stuff to share, just a few hours after I’d arrived:

This Is What FRUITPOCHETTE Sounds Like Now

Ever since the big reveal that FRUITPOCHETTE, left for dead at that point, would in fact be back and with the original lineup in full, things have been unfortunately quiet from the all-time record-holders as Loudest Idol from Ehime. This of course fit right into the necessities of Mina’s comeback, that it be a limited affair that took her health into consideration, so it wouldn’t be polite to suggest any dissatisfaction with the group’s output. What you see is what you get and what you get you’ll like!

This means that anything that we do get is good as gold, and I won’t waste any more of your time before showing you this live clip:

It’s not Classic Frupoche, and it’s definitely not ill-fated One-month Frupoche, but it’s Shiori and Mina doing their thing together on stage, and it rocks and they’re great and I’m happy. Let’s hope that they’re able to keep it up somewhat regularly, do some more recording and maybe even make a few big appearances down the road. It’s the very literal least that they deserve.

PSA: Here Are Broken By The Scream’s Lyrics, Translated

This isn’t exactly new news, but to hell with it, there are bound to be some people in the next little while who are like, aw jeez, what’s this Broken By The Scream thing all about, and then they’ll look up some stuff on YouTube and have their faces melted off; subsequent to their faces being un-melted by time, they might venture out to learn more stuff, including translated lyrics (in English!) of Broken By The Scream’s total opus, and I’d be remiss to not have that available.

Yes! An intrepid soul on Twitter did the dirty work to break BBTS’s songs down into stuff that we all can read and understand, and is therefore a hero unto the ages. What say you, friend?

These Tears of Joy Are for the Desu.Rabbits

Man, looking back, Wednesday was absolutely jam-packed, wasn’t it? And I usually consider it to be the second weakest day of the week, after Sunday, hence I wasn’t anticipating that there’d be this big newsworthy churning glut of MV releases in the span of a few hours, and hence was caught flat-footed and had to scramble to try to cover everything. Alas, “everything” is a metaphysical impossibility, so “something” was going to get left out until considerations could open up later, and in this case that something turned out to be the thing that I might have, on the aggregate, been the most excited about. Luck of the draw!

What was that thing? The title gives it away, but please let me contextualize for the new amount us: See, back when ol’ Homicidols Dot Com got started, I had particular negative tendencies that my stuffed-shirt editorial attitudes for the most part could ignore when called upon to do so, but always failed in the case of OG Ladybaby and the Idol Formerly Known as Deathrabbits. Looking back on it, there’s more of a logical through-line to it, especially seeing as how they’re the only two groups that I ever saw use the “death pop” attribution for themselves and both employed the girls+adult man lineup in extremely similar ways. Without getting too much into it, my general disinterest in both groups showed, and people were happy to call me out for it.

This didn’t really start to change until I was forwarded this Deathrabbits album by their international fan club president, and forcing myself to look at it objectively pointed out that, hey, there are some neat things going on here. It’s not all for me, but it’s also definitely not a bad thing. And so began a gradual thaw toward the group, through their re-brand as Desu.Rabbits and various releases and even that Road to Budokan that– Are they still doing that? I hope so. Don’t give up!

Anyway, to put a bow on this intro, I’d been hoping for a while that the day would come when Desu.Rabbits would show a really mature side of themselves. And when they dropped this MV the other day, there it was: Continue reading

Lyric Holic, Not Dead, Kills

Lyric Holic lives! Or, I guess LyricHolicNoir is how they prefer it to be rendered nowadays. All well and good! This is one of my OG idol metal units, long a favorite to follow if only for the fact that I couldn’t for the life of me figure out what the hell was going on at any given time, and also Tama was fun to interact with here and there. After the original trio all finished graduating, I completely lost track of that maybe the kink-lolita thing they were kind of going with, and that was that. I hadn’t thought of them in months!

And then yesterday, tootling as I was after some other thing that got buried in my YouTube notifications, I found MVs! New ones! Brand new ones! And with them news of a dang EP that they’re calling a single because that’s the world we live in! Did I give those puppies a spin and immediately feel like I was in some dank torture dungeon? You bet!

All the New Things with the Darkness Girls

It was a big night in Shibuya tonight, friends, as NECRONOMIDOL held their first live ex Hina and Sari, and used it as a platform for much more than just rolling out new members.

But first, of course, the members. As all but completely given away in the teaser photo earlier in the week, there are two, and one of them is known to many of us as Hibiki, formerly of Gokigen Teikoku, now going as Kenbishi Kunogi. The other, Michelle, is previously unknown but for folks who follow the modeling scene.

This is probably the best collection of photos from the gig: Continue reading
