Hikicomoteikoku and Like a Whole Basket of New Stuff

This is what I get for holding off for a couple of days to post about something new from an emerging unit — even if I try to close the loop fairly quickly (by my standards these days), there’s the risk that whatever is good and hot and new is going to be superseded by more new stuff. And so here we are with everybody’s favorite shut-in idols, Hikicomoteikoku, who over the weekend dropped a new song for us as just part of a whole package that apparently extends all the way into today.

Hikicomo Teikoku, New Single, Various

It is incumbent upon those of us who like to follow newly emerged loudol acts to continuously follow those newly emerged loudol acts. Some make it easier than others, yes, and there are always plenty whose inevitable two-months-later demise elicits the “Oh no! Anyway” meme more than any actual upset, but I think it’s necessary for a person in my exalted position to routinely revisit the promising newbies, try to drive some energy their way, bolster the ol’ get-up-and-go, you know?

So, among my personal favorite 2020 debuts that I was kind of late to the party on we have Hikicomo Teikoku, the shut-in idols whose very existence is so meta that I can barely stand it. They have a new single, obviously, or rather did two weeks ago, but I haven’t done a thing yet to make you all want to hear it or potentially later buy it from them, so let’s talk about it, and also check in more while we’re at it! Let’s Discover Some Dang Shut-in Idols

So Daemon comes into the Team chat a few weeks ago, or maybe it was Papermaiden (they’re hard to tell apart, see, because they both stan Tsurezure), comes barging in all like “hey, check it, hikikomori idols!” and there was much chuckling and gawking and it was a really good time. Except from yours truly, who idly clicked the Follow button on their Twitter and then immediately went back to being 75% engaged with something of marginal interest to anybody else. That pandemic life, bros!

But as all things go, we made it back to these glorious idols of extreme social isolation, and they are good, and I’m going to tell you about them now as if you, personally you, have never heard of them before. Continue reading
