It’s Time For Our First #IdolDoodles Fan-Art Round-Up!

Time goes by quick! It was at the very end of August when we hosted a Friday Fun dedicated to the joys of fan art, and it came together quite nicely, and YOU deserve all the credit for that! Literally every single post with the #idoldoodles tag was wonderful, I mean that! That kind of positive, creative energy really makes my day, and is truly one of my very favorite things about being a part of this fandom.

One thing you may recall is that we’re intending to maintain a regular feature here on the blog where we share a few of our favorite pieces with the masses. We’ll be revisiting the aforementioned hashtag, but also keeping our eyes peeled for any other terrific idol-themed artwork we happen upon. I’m not sure how often we’ll do a round-up yet: semi-weekly, monthly, probably most likely when we feel like it, but I really want everybody who cares about the wonderful artwork in this community to participate in any way they want. If you make art, (any kind of art) let us know! If you see some else’s art you especially like, also let us know!

We’ll link the twitter or Instagram posts here, and if you see something you appreciate, by all means, please visit their account and let them know you like it! You’ll be surprised how much a simple click of the heart, or a nice comment, or a retweet can mean to a person brave enough to put their work out there. If you do that, they’ll feel compelled to make more art, maybe even score a commission, or just plain feel more confident in what they do. Everybody wins!

With that said, here’s some stuff from the last month that we really liked…

This Friday Fun Is Also A Project For The Idol Fan Creative Community…

Happy Friday!!! I’m filling in for Kerrie this week, and I know I’m not nearly as much fun, but it is indeed Friday so at least I’ve got that much going for me!

So last week the theme was #BadIdolAwards, and with ground that fertile, there were some pretty darn funny responses…

https://twitter.com/AyuniDVa/status/1164875191526264832?s=20

Now for this week, we’re actually looking at something that goes beyond Friday for some fun, and hopefully continues well past the next week. This is an idea we’ve kicked around for probably close to a year now, and I think it’s time we got it rolling…

Prepare for #WorldDotmination

We’re just a few days away from our #WorldDotmination effort, friends, and it really could not be easier to take part. You can also invite your friends to take part — after all, even the Darkness Girls are in love with Dots:

“But Maniac,” you say, “what if I have any of several frequently asked questions that will allow you to fill column inches to better justify creating a whole new post on this topic in such a way as to manipulate more participation in the latest fan effort?”

I’m glad you asked! Continue reading

I Have Further Proof of the Awesomeness of Minna no Kodomo-chan

Picture this: You’re taking a little adventure through YouTube, checking in on some favorites to see if anything slipped through the cracks, looking at recs on the off chance that there’s something that you’ve never seen before, and you see a definite favorite and feel like it can be a nice accompaniment … and then right there, staring you in the face, is a track that you didn’t know existed and isn’t even an official release but may as well be the Holy friggin’ Grail.

I of course refer to Minna no Kodomo-chan’s “I want to kill the morning”:

They also have the best song titles in the business

A Day of World Dotmination Is Upon Us

One of the most pleasant surprises of the year is seeing those strange and mysterious DotsTokyo girls completely surpass their initial status as a quirky underground oddity into a full-blown pop-culture buzz sensation. It doesn’t appear that anyone, including us early-adopter fans, saw this coming. Since the day the Dots announced their rather ambitious first label-distributed release, they’ve became the artistic toast of the town, crossing over to the shoegaze crowd and finding quite a warm welcome awaiting them. It’s pretty amazing and exciting to see this happening, and it really couldn’t happen to a cooler group.

A conversation about this remarkable feat came up on Twitter, and skildert quipped in an offhand reply that Dots were quietly achieving “World Dotmination”. This sounded like a pretty great hashtag. With this clever tag in our pocket, and with the wave of Dotgaze mania surging upon us, it’s time to perform another one of our “artist awareness events”, where we take to the Internet and for one special day, heap a ton of love and adoration to our subject of admiration. As we’ve seen in the past, it seems to go over quite well!

This time it falls on a day that’s simply too perfect to pass up: August 21, 2017. Not only will there be a show of love and Dotmination within the world wide web, but it will also be the day that (Primarily in North America) the Earth will experience a full solar eclipse. In other words, the two biggest “dots” in our sky are also going to participate in this event.

So here’s how we’ll do it. In the spirit of a group that has a minimalist and highly artistic image, we will utilize our creative minds to honor Dots with an aesthetic in that tradition. In the days to follow, look around your everyday life, and take a moment to open your eyes and see one of the most common shapes you encounter…

Get the drift? Dots, man, they’re everywhere. Take your phone and go dot collecting. You can go out searching for dots, or just find them in your day-to-day existence. Don’t limit yourself, have fun and be as creative with this as you want. There’s no wrong way to do this. Make some dot-art if you wish, find a book cover with some dots on it, take a photo of your spotted pets, it all works. Heck, if you’ve got the equipment for it, take a photo of the eclipse that day!

“My God. . . . . . . . It’s full of Dots.”

And then come August 21, post your dot image finds all day long on Twitter with the hashtag #WorldDotmination . Don’t forget to tag or reply to the group as well. This is all about having some artsy fun, and showing the Dots from Tokyo our personal appreciation for sparking a little creative thought in our minds.

We’re looking forward to this one, gang! We really want to see what you see, and celebrate one the best gifts that the idol has given us, while at the same time standing in awe of the cosmic forces of the universe.

Let’s Make the Perfect Valentines for the People We Love

I take no credit for this at all; while doing something Valentines-y had crossed my mind, Brian the Supreme Nothing deserves all the credit in the world for turning it into a workable idea, and of course Kerrie jumped at the opportunity, so here we are

Happy Valentines Day, everyone! How are you going to spend the day of romance? With someone you love? With someone you barely know in the hopes that, hey, at least you get some action amirite? At home with a box of tissues? (I’m doing the latter btw; I’m sick with a flu right now.)

In the spirit of today, we want to see your idol valentines! You’ve seen those cheesy valentine cards with the puns? That, but with idols! It’s easy enough, right?

There’s No Greater Gift Than Fun, So Let’s Have Some with This

Hey kids! Wanna have a birthday party?

What Won’t Idols Do for Attention?

Kerrie’s on a roll, and she even references a game that keeps getting pushed back because of other events; suffice it to say, folks like to have fun, and idol is fun. Take it away, @weeaboowitch.

Hi everyone! Let’s just jump right in; the theme of last week’s party was a controversial one, for sure. I don’t think I’ve quite forgiven Watanabe yet. Maniac is making us do a run so we too can experience the suffering on a much, much more tolerable level, because unlike Watanabe, Maniac isn’t Satan. For extra effect, be sure to live inside your car (or a closet if you don’t drive, I guess) and only eat rice from now until the big day itself!

But back to the point of last weeks gif party, anger really does fuel some quality memes, and last week’s #BetterManagersThanWatanabe event had some excellent responses. We even made it onto other sites!

But the Watanabe-memeing doesn’t stop there. Well, sort of. This is more based around idol in general, but lets face it, most of you will be thinking of BiS in this week’s hashtag party. At least, I sure will. Continue reading

Friday Funday: Hanako-san’s Complete Lack of Impulse Control

Kerrie time! She’s on a roll lately. Hit up her Redbubble store and buy yourself something nice.

Hi everyone! Hope the week was good for you. You may have noticed that things have been changing at Homicidols.com. Maniac is organizing a bunch of different fun things over the week. I even suggested some things too! But where that will go, well, I need to pester him some more.

[Maniac: By the time this published, I’d sent her something! I swear it!]

Luckily (or unluckily depending on your viewpoint), your Homicidols Party Planner Kerrie is still here to announce the community weekend events! Last week’s party, I invited you to imagine an idol festival especially for those retired/disbanded idols/MIA we still miss. It was either going to be the most exciting or most depressing imaginary event ever! Lets look at some of our highlights of #DeadIdolFestival:

This week, we’re going back to the original image-based format these Friday parties started at. It’s not quite a gif party though (unless you’re really good at editing gifs), more a Photoshop party. A Photoshop party based around beloved toilet demon and unofficial Homicidols mascot Hanako-san.

This was the original tweet that inspired this week’s party. Maniac actually mentioned old plans of a Hanako-san party before, but it kept being pushed aside. Well, this is the exact Friday Party he was referring to! Took long enough.

[Maniac: Rude.]

This is definitely a venting party. Don’t like something? Never fear! Hanako-san will destroy it!

You can use any photo/video footage of the toilet ghost’s many violent outbursts, but if you’d rather not fuss about, I made a handy little template for you all if you want it. Simply save the below image, and paste your image inside that blank space.

Tweet your edits under the hashtag #HanakoSanDestroys and we’ll post the best ones next time!

Hanako-san Lost Her Head over This Awesome Fan Art

We’re a talented bunch; whether it’s putting together the BiS Audition Hunger Games to imagining the strange dystopia of #StateOfIdol2020, we’re great at turning our love of idols into fun, interesting things. Alula Sumendap, who you may know on Twitter as @babytarantula, is contributing some cool illustration work.

I call her first submission Hanako-san at Her Cutest. Continue reading
