Minna no Kodomochan are Back with a Bleak and Brilliant Single, “The Final Blinkings”

Minna no Kodomochan have been relatively quiet during the pandemic period. Sole member Cinnamon has kept busy with almost-weekly online cheki sessions and some appearances as a solo idol. She has also performed a handful of lives fronting Kodomochan over the past two years or so, but other than last December’s single, “Don’t Lie About my Existence”, we’ve not seen any new music in quite some time.

That all changed last midnight when Everyone’s Children blessed us with, “The Final Blinkings”, an hypnotically lurid piece of dark wave and doom metal accompanied by an equally mesmerizing, yet disturbing, MV.

Dark Idol Debut: NECRONOMIDOL Initiates Three New Members

NECRONOMIDOL debuted their new lineup last night at The Music Apocalypse, in a set sandwiched between Burst Girl and Broken By The Scream. This follows Sunday’s announcement of the addition of three new members, making the group a quintet after the recent withdrawals of Shiki Rukawa and Roa Toda.

Joining veterans Himari Tsukishiro and Nana Kamino onstage last night were: Continue reading

LiLii Kaona Celebrate 3rd Anniversary with Europa MV, Quietly Demand Your Attention

LiLii Kaona celebrated their three-year anniversary this past weekend with a special live at Moon Romantic, and they had a lot to celebrate. LiLiKao’s incredibly productive third year has included the release of their startling EP, KIYOKU, their first DVD, and non-stop performances including frequent appearances on the MoonRomantic Channel and the beyond excellent Tribu.pre live series. However, despite their near-constant activity, LiLii Kaona may still rank among the best kept secrets in chika idol.

It is well beyond time for that to change. Although we are about a month away from considering the Best of 2020 nominations, if there is any justice in the world (spoiler alert: there is not) LiLii Kaona should be a finalist in the category of Best EP for  KIYOKU, Song of the Year for the impeccable “Rust”, and now, after premiering during their 3rd anniversary live, Best MV:

I Review Things: NECRONOMIDOL | ‘DAWNSLAYER’

I love being on press lists! When the presser email came in yesterday, I did a little jig to myself and immediately downloaded the review copy of “DAWNSLAYER.” I listened to the whole thing through twice, bothered Terry about it, bothered other people I know about it, and decided that “yeah, so you don’t normally review singles but come on it’s basically an EP there are five total songs and also Necroma,” so here we are. On to the review!

A Spectre Will Be Haunting Europe — The Spectre of NECRONOMIDOL

This is very new and very light on details, and in fact I skipped right over it earlier and had to be shown the error of my ways by our translator pal, but holy smokes, you guys, NECRONOMIDOL is taking their dark gospel to Europe:

Details are currently non-existent, except that they’re going to France and Italy in the early part of July, and may be add other countries, too. Unholy smokes. Continue reading

I Review Things: NECRONOMIDOL | “DEATHLESS”

Bringing back the disclaimers! It’s not a secret that I’m a huge mark for NECRONOMIDOL, and that their producer, Ricky Wilson, has been a friend to Homicidols.com in what I hope is a mutually fulfilling relationship; that being said, while I never had much reason to think that DEATHLESS would be anything less than great, I made a strong effort to put the relationship behind me for this sucker; I may love idol and I may love dark idol and I may love NECRONOMIDOL, but we don’t build community trust without honesty, and we don’t make other fans by being sycophants.

So. On to the review!

Your First Look and Listen at Necroma’s ‘DEATHLESS’ Is Here

Oh, oh my friends, I don’t want to paint everybody’s expectations for NECRONOMIDOL’s DEATHLESS album as being as high as mine, but, if “ITHAQUA” is any indication, it’s going to be the early front-runner for Album of the Year.

I know they’re in Japan, but we’re one fjord and/or burning church away from it being Norway

Man, Necroma’s doing a real number on pretty much everybody else in idol+metal anymore; while others (not named FRUITPOCHETTE or Babymetal, at least) fall into predictable sounds or just plain fail to stay in operation, Necroma’s out here blasting away with the forces of evil. The song I dig; the only thing that could make this video better would be if their final approach to the camera were on the backs of timber wolves and/or polar bears, and/or maybe if they were wielding outlandish bladed weapons.

Next Friday, We Go #Deathless4Necroma

Hello everybody! I wanted to share this quick reminder about the next big community idol support project, this time to celebrate NECRONOMIDOL and the release of their DEATHLESS album that I could not be giddier about.

The overall details are here, and right here are the really relevant bits:

  • Friday, Feb. 24
  • Corpse paint and/or spider
  • On your face
  • Snap a selfie (or, gods forbid, a group photo)
  • Update your social profile picks for the day
  • Use #Deathless4Necroma and tag @NECRONOMIDOL on Twitter or Facebook or maybe even Instagram, I dunno
  • And remember to tell your friends!

NECRONOMIDOL. Live. With a Band.

Yesterday was actually a pretty good start to the week; we got a whole bunch of news about releases and there weren’t any casualties in the marathon and there were even a couple of surprise new MVs. Pretty good day! My highlight, though? See the post title.

“NYX” is off of Necroma’s exquisite from chaos born EP. I don’t know if I could be said to expect any video, much less live, from most of the songs on that record, just given the very distinct moods they convey and the challenge of translating that to a visual medium, but I gotta say, this looks like a lot of fun.
