Putting their hat into the sweepstakes of idol groups that use a “re:” prefix in their name is a fresh addition to the scene who call themselves re:miaw! This unit has been around since at least June of this year, but flying a bit under the radar, so it’s bit easy to wonder where they’ve been.
While they do have a group twitter account, they don’t have a lot of information about themselves up. I think I can explain it this way: You see, the one recurring theme I’ve noticed with this group is that they refer to themselves as only being “loosely active”. One member described re:miaw as being a “relaxing activity idol unit”. And you know what? That’s a theme I can relate to!
In our secret high-level Homicidols share-holder’s meetings, we sometimes bounce around stuff that one of us has discovered just to toss it out there to be shared amongst us, or to possibly consider it’s inclusion in Maniac’s Weekender, if not a full article in it’s own right. Today we’ve got something that Chris came across and brought to our attention. Whether it’s true sorcery or merely an illusion, I found myself taken in by their spell, so ladies and gents, please note that there’s nothing up my sleeves as I present MagicTime…
Now I don’t know a heck of a lot about MagicTime other than they’re from Osaka, kick-started their activities in February of this year, and around six months later they still have the same three members, which in the idol world is quite an achievement! The members are Natsuki, Shizuku, and Mio. Natsuki (Megane girl) is the leader and Shizuku is also part of a duo called Strawberry♡Smile. Mio appears to have a superpower but we’ll get to that later. Now let’s check out their recent MV!

Previously I covered the charming idol unit for the garage-rock set, Melon Batake A Go Go, and while I most certainly think they’re totally awesome, fun and terrific, there’s another facet connected to the group that I’m even more intrigued by. Melon-leader Nakamura Soze also has an up-and-coming solo career going on under the stage name SOZELICA.
How does one describe this project? I took my sweet time writing this piece because I wanted to try and figure that how to answer that. After watching a bunch of her videos several times, a few thoughts entered my mind: Experimental DJ? Oddball idol upstart? Performance artist? Chaotic destroyer of stuffed animals and train sets? The best answer I can offer is….yes.
