As we know, Babyraids JAPAN, who are all kinds of fun even when maybe getting a little diversified in their sound, took part in this past weekend’s J-POP SUMMIT in San Francisco. While of course it was a hell of an experience even for idols who’ve done Budokan (what a theme today, huh?), I feel like the ability to get a rise out of idols getting a rise out of life is part of what makes this whole endeavor worth it, you know?
So here’s a whole mess of photos and stuff:

“Oh cool,” quoth I, “there’s a new Babyraids video! And it looks really pro and idoly — I can only imagine what kind of song we’ll get out of it!”
Huh! Continue reading
This is such cool news, gang: The impossibly infectious chief denizens of idorock, Babyraids JAPAN, will be performing at this year’s J-POP SUMMIT in San Francisco (says the guy repeating his own headline):

Tommy and Dave with the goods!
BAND-MAID, who are honorary members of the homicidol continuum, and SCANDAL, who are not but still cool*, will be there, too. Continue reading
Man, you guys, I was a little uncertain as to how good this week was going to be. I was actually looking on YouTube for any video from THE SPUNKY’s actual last live when I decided to take a look at my recs, and … serious, give this a spin:
That riff
I have one request: What does “Baki Baki” mean? Continue reading
Babyraids JAPAN! The most idorock group in existence is also like making cold-brewed coffee from roasted, ground fun beans. I spent a solid week a while back just rotating through MVs and live videos of theirs; just in my own mind (feel free to disagree!), they have the same raw, manic joy in their work as Dempagumi.inc, but at a more manageable pace and without half of the flashing lights.
They’re releasing a new single next month, and they’re of course doing the one-man routine to promote it. And to promote that, they’ve been putting out these cool promo videos that just kind of lay it down: Continue reading
Actually, yes, somebody (d0fph0t0!) did mention Babyraids Japan, in the context of the Best of 2016 voting and why the hell weren’t Babyraids Japan included? And the basic reason is that they weren’t nominated by anybody. But the other basic reason is that, a few posts about them here and there, they’ve never really caught on the way some others do.
So with lots of eyes looking at ye olde Homicidols.com over the next few days, let’s check in on the queens of “emotional idorock.”
What luck! This charming video appeared on YouTube about a week ago:
It might not be the blow-your-hair-back power of NATASHA’s self-titled (dare I say almost pompous!) 6 minutes of fire, but, if you like not just idol rock, but actual idorock, then you should have this song in your life.
“Ride on IDOROCK” … why is so much of this song so familiar … Continue reading
I always feel a little bit badly for not including more Babyraids Japan, but they’re on stupid Ponycanyon and their stuff gets blocked in the USA and I wind up relying on others to tip me off when they do something cool and interesting (like this!).
In this instance, Kimi Kame was on the case:

Proxy that sucker if you need to!
Babyraids is kind of a big deal in Japan, and for good reason — as far as rock idols go, they’re right up there with Himekyun Fruit Can in terms of raw quality.
