We Will See ayumikurikamaki as Bears Again

This is a terrible bit of video that ayukuma pushed out; not because it sucks in and of itself, or because I dislike the implications (quite the opposite!), but because Kuma-sama here is clearly giving three of my favorite idols the sads, and I’ll be damned if that’s okay.

But check it out! Continue reading

One Step Closer to Being Bears Again: Ayukuma Single!

I haven’t felt right since the three bear cubs known as Ayumi, Kurika and Maki were cursed by some mean-ass old witch or something and turned into human women, a form in which they’re doomed to remain unless — UNLESS! — they can successfully hold a one-man at Nippon Budokan by … the end of the year!

/thunder-n-lightning

Very dramatic. But all too real! Ayumikurikamaki was one of my favorite things to find in 2016, and I got way too much stupid joy out of the whole bear thing. That’s why I want it to be back! And maybe this brand-spankin’-new single will be the vehicle that gets us there:

“Goma Slipper”? The hell?

April 12. It’d better sell like hotcakes, and it’d better be setting up a new album for the fall, and that album had better be part of a Road to Budokan, and it’d all better be so purely ayukuma that we can all forget that “Tabidachi no Uta” ever happened. Otherwise … well, we’ll always have “JET KUMA STAR.”

Happy Thursday.

Remember a Stupid Fun 2016 with ayumikurikamaki

You know who doesn’t seem to be the least bit disappointed in how their 2016 turned out? Ayukuma. Successful album, major label, prominent anime theme song, a transmogrification curse, appearances at rock and idol festivals all over Japan, and all-around pervasive feeling of joy in everything they do? Yeah, I’d say they have stuff to remember.

From their Facebook page, here’s how they’re choosing to remember the year when they finished graduating from being a fun DJ project between friends to officially kind of a big deal:

Here’s the Full MV for Ayukuma’s New Single

We already kind of bagged on ayumikurikamaki for sucking the fun out of themselves on “Tabidachi no Uta,” so there’s no need to re-hoe that row. Let’s just sit around this campfire and enjoy the video together for a few minutes:

Ironically, this is blocked in Japan!

I had to upload this myself, and it may be taken down. Why? Because geo-block! What’s your excuse, AKM? Most in this boat just don’t have the resources to get around the YouTube Red issue on a monetized channel; you’ve just plain opted to not make the video available in at least one country. WHY DO YOU HATE US? Continue reading

Wanna hear ayumikurikamaki’s New Song?

Ayukuma’s been making a lot of hay about getting their new single, “Tabidachi no Uta” (they’re calling it “Song of the New Beginning” in English), selected as the ending theme for this Naruto show that I’ve never watched but I know a bunch of people do watch because there are commercials on Cartoon Network and stuff.

You can get it via iTunes (Japan), too, which is pretty exciting if you’re so inclined.

But you can also get yourself a legit sneak peek by looking at the Naruto end credits in question.

Good find, Jordan!

Can I just say something? Continue reading

Ayumikurikamaki Just Refuse to Slow Down

I want to make sure that nobody misses this pretty nice bit of news:

New single! And a mini-tour to promote it! “Traveling Song”? or something like that? “Tabidachi no Uta.” Good times. Continue reading

Ayumikurikamaki Are Feeling Festive

While trapped by an ancient curse to wander the earth as mere humans until they play Budokan, ayumikurikamaki are somehow able to ride a high tide of support coming off of their second full album and successful appearances on some of Japan’s biggest stages. For instance, here’s them at Rock in Japan last week:

This Is a Great Opportunity to Get to Know ayumikurikamaki

After having angered an evil sorcerer somewhere, the mega-awesome teddy bear idols ayumikurikamaki have been turned back into regular humans, but their music is still a lot of fun. After wrapping up a Line live earlier today (please, somebody, tell me that you recorded it), they announced that Line is hosting clips of what looks like their entire catalog. Continue reading

A Bear Apocalypse Is Looming and We Are Helpless to Stop It

Look very closely at the banner photo. Do you know who it is?

And this. Looking at this, do you know who these three women are?

Idolcore rock idol group ayumikurikamaki in their human form

That’s right. A terrible curse has fallen upon the land, and Ayumikurikamaki have turned back into humans. They can only return to bear form if they’re able to announce a Nippon Budokan show by the end of 2017. Continue reading

Awesome ayumikurikamaki Studio Session Videos

I spied these over on the Idolmetal & Alternative Idol Facebook page earlier; the local Ayukuma contingent will love ’em, I thought.

And then I started to think about why it is that three grown-ass women would, on the day that they’re going to participate in a studio session with a live band, bother to put on their idoling costumes. Plush bear gloves and hoods and tennis dresses must get hot as hell, right?

And then it hit me: THEY CAN’T TAKE THE SUITS OFF.

To get over the shock of that revelation, have this astonishingly adorable photo of Ayumi.

I don’t kawaii often, but when I do, it’s for things like this.
