RAY Gazes Upon Taipei… (With Live Footage!)

RAY, the next generation shoegaze idols who arose from the ashes of the legendary dot-chans, have been hard at work crossing genres, boundaries and now borders. The group visited Taiwan and performed a show in Taipei. Excitedly, I scanned Twitter and YouTube hoping to find some footage of the concert. Viz and Rain were also thankfully on the case, and proved to be ethusiatic as always to help out…

And Rain went and found an upload of the entire set! He certainly wanted to make sure we didn’t sleep on it…

Okay, Rain, fine!!! But kidding aside, he and Viz are right. RAY is something very special indeed to the idol scene, and deserve to keep growing their audience as they expand on the seminal framework that Dots created and shared with the world. And Maniac thinks they’re pretty terrific as well. So hey, let’s get to it! Here, in it’s full glory, is the full set of RAY in Taipei…

It’s not mere hyperbole to sing the praises of this group and declare them to be one of the very best acts on the idol, circuit…cause it’s true!! This is a fantastic show that shows a real growth in ambition and potential. The MC is utterly charming as well! And I’m glad they’re still singing “Slide” (Written by Azusa Suga!) because it’s essentially a classic at this point. Of course, the RAY originals are on point as well!

RAY is also releasing their very first single, “Blue” due out on October 30th! (Seems like a safe bet that the cover art is inspired by New Order’s album “Power, Corruption, and Lies”.) I’m keeping an eye out for an international retailer to order from, (Looks like it’s just Disk Union for now, who’ll you’ll need to use a proxy with.)  and I’ll be sure to let you know when I find something. Considering that the group has connections to For Tracy Hyde and now Ringo Deathstarr, it seems likely that a modestly further reach outside of Japan just might be possible. As a matter of fact, the group’s management is using their Facebook page to communicate in entirely in English.

While we’re at it, here’s a couple more videos of the same show… Hey, different angles, y’ know…

Let’s hope this RAY shines upon us for a long time!!
