Let’s Discover Some Idols: DEARDEVIL

I get the feeling that this one is less a Let’s Discover and more a Let’s Mutually Agree To Play Along While Maniac Covers His Ass About New Idols, so bear with me. But if you’ve been anywhere near the wonderful devilsend that is Satanic Punish, you’ve no doubt come across a worthy sister project called DEARDEVIL, which is just such a delicious bit of wordplay that I’m mad I didn’t think of it first. But anyway!

This is DEARDEVIL (Twitter), and this is my first exposure to them:

Right? Like yeah, they’re clearly a Satanic Punish sister unit, but also goddamn is it nice to hear some of those vintage idol metal sounds. It’s like this one little family alone is going to kick off a NWOJIHM movement, and I’m here for it.

So that first single, that’s been out for a little while, but I wanted this Let’s Discover post to have a bit more heft to it, so into the drafts it went until some other release came along. And so it did last week! This is their second single, “Heroine ≠ Heroin”:

What a title

What the world really needs is more idols that are plain and simply devoted to being very loud. If they happen to sound like vintage Guso Drop crossed with Minna no Kodomochan a little bit along the way, then so be it.

And what Let’s Discover would this be without a look in at the live experience?

Welcome to DEARDEVIL, friends. Don’t say I never give you anything nice.
