Thought they could sneak one past me, did they? So akugi, either the latest or second-latest debutante from Codomomental (I can’t remember) and therefore loved by default around here, are officially releasing an EP next Wednesday, and to thoroughly whet our appetites the bosses have released another track, yes on a limited basis, but a limited basis that I managed to snag at the right time!

Anyway, this one guests Uine from fellow newbies TOKYO Tefutefu, and is definitely different from the norm. Set your ears to enjoy!

One important thing to remember about Codomomental units: They tend to be very unsettled at their outset. Tsurezure really drifted between styles for the first little while before settling into what we could all identify as uniquely their sound; Zenkimi had much heavier moments at one point but also found a sweet spot. Hell, Kaqriyo has been all over the map! But so while I love that akugi is being well and truly different from the company norm in many respects, frankly welcome the injection of chill beats and worry that I may have finally encountered the unit from a favored company that will nonetheless graduate to full-time Weekender coverage on account of being a poor stylistic fit for the editorial policy of this highly professional website, it bears mentioning that lofi tracks like this or the recent flirtation with trap might not be indicative of much more than the phases of experimentation so typical of Codomomental groups.
