This is one that I’ve been meaning to get to for a while, gang, but I’m really glad that I finally did.
A little while back, Pure Idol Heart shared this one with me for I think like the third time, I guess possibly a little annoyed that I hadn’t responded before. But don’t blame me! There’s a lot of idol and only so much stuff to take in at once. However, what it was was Atarashii Gakkou no Leaders, 新しい学校のリーダーズ, Leaders of the New School (Twitter), and it was really interesting and I bookmarked everything that they had and then … nada, because while I’m more than willing to share new stuff with you guys via proxy if it’s from a known entity (like BiS!), I felt like I was doing everybody a disservice by relying on dumb ol’ YouTube and its region blocking.
Thank goodness for Viz Major, then.

That’s “Dokubana,” and it’s their latest, and I love it so hard. Listen to Suzuka, their center/leader. Listen to that voice. Look at this awesome art.
Even their obligatory idol street flyering looks cooler than everybody else’s:

Or when they just horse around:

They aren’t new, per se, and have even done the obligatory tofubeats remix in the past, but they’re obviously not hugely veteran, either. They’re with Asobi System, the same company as Musubizm, who are also extraordinarily cool if not necessarily heavy. In the case of Leaders, they haven’t always been so … I dunno, core-y, but they have always been fun and unconventional:
That’s all a lot of fun. All hail idol.
This is interestingly different!
Right? And the more I think about it, I think I heard their earlier stuff a while back and wasn’t really moved, but this latest piece is something else entirely.
Not your average idol voice. They’re very sharp dancers as can be seen from other stuff on youtube with an interesting performance aesthetic. Their twitter feed shows they are very aware of the visual side of promoting themselves and have a flair for not taking themselves too seriously in photographs. I like them a lot.
Thanks Maniac and crew, a little gem uncovered for me.
