Just kind of riffing on my dude Daemon’s post from the other day, but it’s true, and not like in the way that I got way out in front of myself and thought that this year’s international tour was a precursor to an album release (instead it was precursor to more fan tears than I thought possible!). No, this seems pretty legit. Just play along.
First this got dropped into the world:
I’m assuming that it was kind of quietly regarded because it’s a) for the graphic novel and b) was released by the publisher, not Amuse. Fine. But … hey, that’s Babymetal music, music that was theretofore unheard by we mere mortals, and there’s some heft to the whole presentation, like there’s more to it.
Par for the Babymetal course, no doubt. Par for the Babymetal fan course, though, is to relentlessly overanalyze everything within broadcast distance of potential new material, and in this case some sleuthing uncovered our likely future.
An enterprising Redditor* decided to run that audio through Shazam, which I wasn’t even aware was still a thing … and this came up:
And it’s apparently a single scheduled for release on Oct. 19. That’s two weeks away!
The question then becomes: Are we talking single-single, that is one song and like one B-side to go with it? Or are we talking lead single-single, like they did with “Karate” and kinda-sorta I thought did with “Distortion”, which is to say getting one track out there into the world ahead of the general release, to accompany the MV, and then having all the rest of the usual album release stuff follow?
It’s probably kind of moot, right? Here’s a new song, scheduled for official release; along with that, we have the officially released “Distortion”; and that “Elevator Girl” or whatever song and the played-lots-of-times-live-this-isn’t-another-Bubble-Dreamer-scenario “TATTOO”:
Or as one might surmise, things are lining up for a single at worst, and a full-on album is likely on a near horizon. We’ll presumably be seeing Yui again soon as well, thank heavens.
So hold on to your butts, kids, because things are about to get very interesting indeed.
Also, what the heck is an “AGIMAT”?
*It had been a while since I last lurked my way back to the Babymetal subreddit; I was relieved to see that the same jokes are being told at the same frequency as ever
