We made it!! It has been a log journey, but we have finally arrived:
Here are the TOP TEN MUSIC VIDEOS EVER as chosen by the readers of Homicidols dot com via a long, convoluted process that has been covered in depth elsewhere.
As always, each MV is accompanied by commentary from one or more of the individuals who nominated it way back in May or June when we started this process and the Team. I’ll keep the pre-amble short though because what you really want to know is: WHO MADE THE TOP TEN?
Let’s go!
10. MELON BATAKE A GO GO, “Ikasuze Idol”
Evil Ed: The idols from outer space have almost as many great MVs as they have great psychobilly songs, but one of the best is definitely “Ikasuze Idol” because nuns have more fun.
Supreme Nothing: It’s a perfect example of what you can do without spending a ton of money and relying on a lot of heart to make fun things. Just like the B-movies that the Melon girls wink at, there’s a spirit here that big bucks just can’t match.
9. Kaqriyo Terror Architect, “Kagome Kagome”
Daemon: This introduction of KTA to the world was blast of dark, hyper-energetic, joy that we are still feeling the effects of.
Michel: My first love ❤️
8. BELLRING Girls Heart, “c.a.n.d.y”
D4rkWzd: I just love the slow motion chaos in it. Brilliant camera work, and the music fits perfectly.
7. Yukueshirezutsurezure, “Shinjuku Cinema Connection”
Papermaiden: Ok, which other MV tells a story that only features the group members as feral cats?
Maniac: I like the idea of Yukueshirezutsurezure being muses. Not the inspirational kind, but a Greek chorus of your sins and desires.
6. Yanakoto Sotto Mute, “Lily”
Daemon: This MV perfectly captured the energy and elegance of the perfect modern idols.
5. Zenbu Kimi no Sei da., “Dokuhaku-en”
Magnet: This is the MV that got me into Zenkimi and, therefore, my first idol group! It combined fascinating visuals and musical styles that are fresh in their contrasts. Homicidols got me into this mess in the first place so, thanks!
4. BiS, “STUPiG”
farfromsleep: An overwhelming riot of light and noise that might be the single most perfect piece of audiovisual art ever created. Crank it loud enough and you will see God (and her name is First Summer Uika).
AbandonedRobot: I read that alt-idol only exists because Pour Lui wanted to piss off her manager.
Papermaiden: This is horrifying and striking and I think it really stands out as Frankfurt School meets… I don’t know, Tetsuo the Iron man????
Apfelracker: Yeah, this one’s a no-brainer. The video itself and the song need no explanation. Just watch and enjoy!
3. Minna no Kodomo-chan, “I Wish I was dead when I wake up”
Dameon: This, the debut of Minna no Kodomochan, took kawaii metal to a exhilaratingly dark and subversive level.
2. MIGMA SHELTER, “69”
Cal: The theatrics of it all. The music video really nails the aesthetic of kitschy Japanese action movies from the 70’s.
ShaneAlpha: Fun, pumping beat, and a great story.
1. NECRONOMIDOL, “Santa Sangre”
maxomai: I’m a Necroma fanboy and so, in my opinion, all of NECRONOMIDOL’s videos are great, but this one really showcases Ricky’s talent as a horror film maker.
Winner: Homicidols MV of the Year 2020
Honorable Mention
I am sure the below MV didn’t get a nomination for top 50 because we Homicidols readers are all too hip and cool and have moved so far beyond it by now that we deemed it not even worth mentioning. But, if we are being honest, the MV that is solely responsible for sending more people down the rabbit hole leading to the world of alternative, indie, and underground idol is, of course, this one:
Now that all has been revealed, here’s a complete list of Top 50: Homicidols Top 50 MVs of All Time. And be sure to tell us everything we got right (or wrong) over on the Homicidols’ Discord server.
