Yajima Mai Will Bathe in Your Blood and Sound Great Doing It

You know that good things are afoot, and differences are being made, when folks start to excitedly ping you about a new thing before that thing has even actually happened. I’d been stoked about what was to come from the new Yajima Mai album going back to when I was still just traipsing after her and hoping that she’d get a good, solid break, there being clear and indisputable evidence that this young woman had all of the This and That that a performer needs to excel, needing only some good fortune.

Mai’s first full album, Vampiress, is just a month away, and today came the MV that validates all of that waiting and hoping:

This Will Be a Great Opportunity to Get into Yajima Mai

I like tweets from friends:

Or, to contextualize that, mistress of the gothic arts Yajima Mai, creative force behind this, just wrapped up her three-singles-in-three-months thing with a one-man, and at said show announced the release of her first full album, and that my friends is how you repeat the details in a press release:

This Is the Trailer for Yajima Mai’s New EP

I had wanted to wait until the MV was out for this one, team, but I’m not entirely sure that it’s going to get an individual release at this point (Team Maimi may want it as a reward, not just a carrot), so let’s just enjoy this short trailer for Innocent Emotion:

This sucker is out tomorrow. It’s obviously loud and melodic and epic and metal — like classically so, minus the “extreme” that’s so obligatory anymore — and I can’t wait.

So Apparently Yajima Mai Grants Wishes

The other day, in a playful mood, I did this:

Some people did it, too! Those are people who understand that Yajima Mai, who is incredibly cool and epic, is incredibly cool and epic, and that we should all want full-length MVs from her.

Well, it only took a few days for her to release a teaser: Continue reading

Man, Yajima Mai Is Awesome

Another track from BLOODTHIRSTY, for “Incest Taboo” (what) turned into a lyric video. Be still my bleeding heart:

Good get, Mr. Major

Now, in fairness, the question has come up before: Idol or not idol? The fans of hers that I was chatting with a little while ago certainly didn’t object to my use of the nomenclature, and they’d know as well as anybody, but is this a case like SIN ISOMER, where you have a VK-like frontwoman operating as a soloist who connects with bands to back her? I don’t know! But the fact that Maimi does these cool video things with fans, maybe that’s pretty idol. Continue reading

I’m Loving Yajima Mai’s Album Preview

Technically, BLOODTHIRSTY was already released, and we’ve had a chance to see promo material from one of idol metal’s best individual performers, but Yajima Mai just released this album trailer on YouTube the other day, and I’d be remiss if I didn’t share it and tell you that you should think about trying to acquire it … somehow?

Tell me at which song preview you felt utter despair overwhelm you

Yajima Mai Is Birthing a 2nd Mini Album and Has the MV to Prove It

Let’s keep it dark today, shall we? I owe a few people credit for pointing out this one, but let’s give it to @AshLikeSnow17 for being the most recent. Here’s the vampiric solo idol Yajima Mai crushing “BLOOD RESOLUTION”:

That title though

Just a Week Away from the Halloween Specials

The most important thing Halloween-related is to respond to Kerrie’s call for spooky idol video. Get to it!

We’re just a week away from the Halloween specials running around these parts, and things are starting to get a little spooky in these parts. Idols of the dead, twisted clown idols, demon idols, occult idols, idols who are zombies and vampires and stuff, we got it all.

Speaking of the vampiric, remember when we took a spin through Yajima Mai? This cut-up video of a live set was added to YouTube the other day, and it’s about as seasonally on-point as it gets:

And While We’re on the Topic of Idols of the Undead

Thanks to Idol 2.0, I’ve known about Yajima Mai (Twitter, Facebook) for a while now, a solo performer that I had kind of randomly stuck back into the “does a lot of ‘heavy metal’ but” category.

For instance, “but makes terrible fashion choices.” Why, Japanese people?
