Good morning, friends! It’s Thursday Hurtsday, and I’ve been a little bit remiss because reasons, but I’m back in the saddle and ready to share..
I figured that we could start with solo idol Ishido Natsumi, who’d been so under the radar for so long that she didn’t even make the cut for entry into the Corenament. To be left out of a completely bogus and made-up competition of idols who are primarily known to Westerners … Sad!
And while Natsumi is pretty good in her own right, this piece doesn’t even feature her. Continue reading →
I didn’t have a good opportunity to get this added yesterday, but Terry (not John!) did, and you all may as well get your material that way. And it’s Thursday Hurtsday, and why not shoehorn in a little death pop for old time’s sake? My only complaint: TIFKAL needs to cool it with the piped-in man-voice, as it sounds increasingly ridiculous. We’re going to get that with Deadlift Lolita; time for Rie and Rei to move on.
Another day another YouTube notification……and look who it is the ladybaby girls! feels like only yesterday we got to enjoy their MV for the B side “Easter Bunny” from their next single. Now they are back with the main dish “Pelo” already! an boiii does this song have some nice guitar licks (pun intended)
The thing about idols … look, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Idols can do anything. And sometimes that means idoling on top of having a day job in a maid cafe — they go together like peanut butter and jelly. It’s fine. And oftentimes said idoling while maid cafeing means that you’re idoling as an extension of said maid cafe, which means being all tradol and kawaii and stuff, which, okay, fine, it is what it is.
Do you guys remember last week when we took a nice look at Fukuoka Kanbe Girls and remarked that, ha, isn’t it neat how idols are part of any tourism marketing department’s promotional arsenal?
Well, step that up a little bit, and you get Banzai Japan (Twitter), who … I don’t think I need to explain it. Japan. They promote Japan. Or, rather, they aim to do so by incorporating a member from each of the 47 prefectures and I guess are working on that? Anyway! They rock traditional looks in their costuming, they use some neotraditional sounds, that kind of thing. Maybe not the kind of thing that you’d expect to find here on Homicidols.com!
I missed Indie Idol Wednesday yesterday, shame on me, but Twitter & Friends provided even more bad news from the world of idol, and of course that happened on the day that Caesar was stabbed to death by a combination of trusted friends and bitter enemies. History!
And that’s what a pair of idol projects are now, unfortunately. No, I’m not referring to the soon-to-die Hauptharmonie (my soul will never recover), but to one group that I used to think had a real chance to do something, and another that seemed like they were right on the cusp and in fact had been active and stuff lately. They’re dead/dying.
First up, Koisuru Beat. I really only got to look at them once, and almost a year ago at that, but had recently learned that they’d had some management/membership issues of their own and were operating as a solo effort. Well, they won’t be operating as anything anymore:
And this literally three days after calling for auditions. Rough one, and it’s a shame how these things shake out, but getting any real longevity in idol is basically a miracle, anyway, so hopefully the past unpleasantness doesn’t leave the ex-members without positive experiences and a chance to keep idoling if they want to.
You guys, you may have noticed that I’m kind of an idiot sometimes*, so trust me when I say that yeah, I published this yesterday by accident because I somehow lost the ability to understand how time works. I did catch it before I ruined things for everybody; I did not catch it before Jul saw the thing and clicked and shared some very useful information that now I can incorporate into the post at the correct time!
So! I’ve changed up just about everything, but dig it: I’m first showing you the live video because that was the plan all along.
Everything is a mess! I wanted to do something special-like for this Thursday Hurtsday, and I was sitting there wondering, should I just talk about how fate is cruel and A-to-J has an extra media pass for the Anime Matsuri event in Houston and I logistically can’t take part … but naw, this ain’t about me, it’s about the idols, and who really sums up Thursday Hurtsday better than Hanako-san?
This was posted yesterday, luckily. You know those stories about the audience being pelted and covered with all manner of foulness? Continue reading →
