I’m not one of those people who’s like “oh man, I got this case of the Mondays!” Monday’s fine, if kind of annoying because yeah, it does in fact mean that it’s back to work on the things that are less interesting than the free time things, but come on, it’s just Monday, how many of them do you have in life? It’s a lot! So pluck up. Plus, everybody knows that Tuesday is the worst.
I do however understand that there can be some trepidation about heading back to work. Bosses may be bad, jobs are often both bad and dumb, commutes are the devil. I can think of a whole lot of things that I’d rather be doing than almost everything that I can for Day Job. For instance, blogging posts about idols! Good thing I’m doing that right now at least!
I was almost unbelievably excited when Party Rockets GT, who at this point must be nearing some kind of idol record for general continuity and/or still has Haruka around because manager-san has her heart in an egg like in that old fairy tale, announced their series of monthly releases and then made good on the first delivery by cranking out one of their nastier tunes in a while. Oh man did that feel good. And it was only like a week ago!
Well, it’s time for the second installment, and hold on to your butts. This is the PRGT that makes the world go ’round:
Sorry, after listening to this, a solitary tear fell down my cheek. It’s so beautiful! was my body’s proclamation; my soul rejoiced. Please, gods dark and terrible, please keep this streak going. Please give me Party Rockets like this forever, like they’re meant to be. May they go full supernova and purge weak-ass loudol from this earth.
I’m bad at following things that I like sometimes. This is admitted freely. There’s a lot of stuff! And in idol, a lot of what helps to separate things or make them stand out is whether I get a notification from YouTube as opposed to just about anything else, because YouTube means video, and I always brake for video.
Anyway, in this case, said notification spun me back around on Party Rockets GT from a month ago, when they capped their year-ending one-man with a nice set of announcements:
“There’s new Banamon” read the message, and my teeth set like that emoji that you send when somebody tells you something that’s befitting a “wew lad” but you don’t want to dignify it by typing that much. There were more posts to blog, I thought to myself, than this site’s latest favorite whipping-idol, and the Weekender exists for reasons, and why am I even worried about this, it’s a Ker– oh, Kerrie’s got other things to do, okay. Well, I may as well … oh okay!
So. There’s news from THE BANANA MONKEYS! Some of it involves people, and some of it involves the things that people create. Let’s invert that proposition and start with the thing, which is music, which is actually also the lede, so here you go:
In maybe … let’s not call it more surprising, but maybe inevitable-but-nonetheless-terrifying surprising, in that kind of surprising, Banamon went ahead and added a couple of new members, too! Continue reading →
DEAR IDOLS, STOP RELEASING COOL THINGS WHEN I’M TRYING TO NOT DO IDOL STUFF FOR A MINUTE. LOVE, MANIAC.
Jeez louise, you guys, can somebody please send a memo to Japan that this isn’t the time to be releasing or teasing or even suggesting the possibility of existence of new stuff? Give it a week! But no, I jest — foolish indeed is the idol fan who bemoans receiving the goods at any time, and Melon’s been on a roll as they prep for their first major (I know!) album release, Ikasuze Idol 1,2,3!!, next month.
The last coupleof entries were right in the usual Melon Batake a go go theme of “throwback rock and -abilly even and stuff that goes right into our anachronistic theme of space alien superhero girls and monster movies and stuff,” but this one, you must hear to believe, throws that concept right at a wall of latter-era rock sound and forces you to hold on, and it’s great! I figure that Papermaiden’s going to take the daily post title award, so I’ll just riff on her concept and completely reject her blasphemy this time by flipping it around and saying YEAH THANKS SANTA THIS IS JUST WHAT I WANTED!
Or, I guess it’s more appropriate to say, PassCode, I’ve been missing you, why don’t you come in, there’s pie and cider and yes, we’re all annoyed with him too, I got him extra drunk on eggnog and now he’s sleeping it off, oh for me? for all of us! Why, it’s exactly what we need to kick this traditional holiday get-together of people in ugly sweaters into high gear! I’ll just put this right on for everybody to enjoy! Continue reading →
This beauty popped up on Soundcloud like it was preordained. If you aren’t ready to smash Friday and go into your weekend like a BAMF, possibly while stroking the six-shooter in your hip holster while striding down a dusty Main Street in search of outlaws to bring to justice, I very literally cannot help you:
Never bring an idol to a gunfight, they said, but who the hell are they, and why wouldn’t I? You clearly need them and their music to set the scene!
Melon’s got a big line of shows next week. Gotta promote that final indie release!
It’s going to be so weird to have this in-every-sense-of-the-word-outstanding unit publishing on a major label. As long as it doesn’t mess with what Soze’s able to do with that incredible brain of hers, I’ll take it with cautious optimism.
There still isn’t any time, and in fact this is being rapidly thrown together a good while before the time it will publish because there’s no time! But it’s a fun new song from 143, which qualifies as something worth blogging a post about all on its own, and also because there’s more context.
First, the song!
Here are your lyrics, because this is the timeline that we’re in now, it’s all Soundcloud and Twitter lyric sheets:
Now, for what it’s worth, I have no idea why these two songs, given the following context of the simultaneous release of the group’s first two singles, neither of which includes either of these tracks:
I miss time. It’s a nice thing to have! Lack of it keeps me from many things anymore. Thankfully, the gods invented things like YouTube and Soundcloud, so I don’t need all the time to keep up with everything, and can sometimes even do it on the go. Like, for instance, this very nice rock song from NEO JAPONISM, who you will recall do lots of nice rock songs in that inimitable way that only idols can. Let’s listen together!
By now, you’ve probably heard the stream of “Starlight”, Babymetal’s first release in (/checks watch) two and a half years, good lord. There’s an MV, too, which we’ll get to in a second. First, though, let’s take these things in meta-chronological order and note: Yuimetal is officially out of the group:
