This beauty popped up on Soundcloud like it was preordained. If you aren’t ready to smash Friday and go into your weekend like a BAMF, possibly while stroking the six-shooter in your hip holster while striding down a dusty Main Street in search of outlaws to bring to justice, I very literally cannot help you:
Never bring an idol to a gunfight, they said, but who the hell are they, and why wouldn’t I? You clearly need them and their music to set the scene!
Melon’s got a big line of shows next week. Gotta promote that final indie release!
It’s going to be so weird to have this in-every-sense-of-the-word-outstanding unit publishing on a major label. As long as it doesn’t mess with what Soze’s able to do with that incredible brain of hers, I’ll take it with cautious optimism.
There still isn’t any time, and in fact this is being rapidly thrown together a good while before the time it will publish because there’s no time! But it’s a fun new song from 143, which qualifies as something worth blogging a post about all on its own, and also because there’s more context.
First, the song!
Here are your lyrics, because this is the timeline that we’re in now, it’s all Soundcloud and Twitter lyric sheets:
Now, for what it’s worth, I have no idea why these two songs, given the following context of the simultaneous release of the group’s first two singles, neither of which includes either of these tracks:
I miss time. It’s a nice thing to have! Lack of it keeps me from many things anymore. Thankfully, the gods invented things like YouTube and Soundcloud, so I don’t need all the time to keep up with everything, and can sometimes even do it on the go. Like, for instance, this very nice rock song from NEO JAPONISM, who you will recall do lots of nice rock songs in that inimitable way that only idols can. Let’s listen together!
By now, you’ve probably heard the stream of “Starlight”, Babymetal’s first release in (/checks watch) two and a half years, good lord. There’s an MV, too, which we’ll get to in a second. First, though, let’s take these things in meta-chronological order and note: Yuimetal is officially out of the group:
It’s time for another Kaqiryo Terror Architect song preview! The last one had me so hype that I wanted to break — they already had one stupid-good album release on the year, and an EP on the same level had the potential to shatter reality as we know it. These tweets from the boss are always so good-way ominous:
A funny moment on Saturday: Within a few hours’ time of saying not-great things about IVOLVE’s new MV, I fumbled around with Soundcloud while looking for a good soundtrack for a bunch of housework and boom, right there at the top of the feed, a fresh track from … the same IVOLVE that I’d just kind of dismissed. Funny!
It doesn’t appear on the new single, but was instead announced at their one-man the other night, from which they’ve also released a ton of live video: Continue reading →
There were two surprise music things in my stream this morning: Eminem’s Kamikaze album of diss tracks, and these two demos from Wonder Lander.
Yeah, Wonder Lander! When was the … holy smokes. I mean, they’ve popped up in the Weekender a-plenty during the past year, but you’d think that I’d do something more for one of my personal guilty pleasure idol groups. I have to admit that I don’t even know where the membership stands vs. its original iteration anymore!
And here, finally, after months of construction, of combining the aural with the visual with the personal with the novel, HAMIDASYSTEM finally gets to put an end to the four-part arc brought they kicked off all the way back in May. This is the final chapter in their story:
I wish I had all the time in the world to dig into this post, but time is alas short and I’m going to share this with about half of the commentary that it warrants: AIBECK, long a weekender stable thanks to their copious live video output but rarely one to wind up getting the full post treatment because … this was the last one, actually. Semiannual feature appearances aren’t uncommon among the most chika idols of the homi variety, but I always thought that AIBECK, with their “Idol Counter Attack” thing and BILLIE IDLE-esque insistence on being something beyond idol, would have been more of a catch-on.
At the very least, maybe this new tune will get you onto the bandwagon: Continue reading →
Well if this isn’t completely out of left field — masters of the quasi two-hour teaser release window Zenbu Kimi no Sei Da have graced us with a new song without a shred of warning or even a new release date to consider. It’s just out here, and it wants us to listen to it!
