Oh. Hell. Yes.
We’ve gotten little teasers about this music and video shoot, and Broken by the Scream just dropped the full article:
STARMARIE! One of my favorite personally new idols of 2016, always a good time to visit with, dropped a butt-ton of video and music over the last couple of weeks. With their cool esoterica theme and totally unique style, I can think of no better way for us to get ginned up for the bitter end of this brutal, exciting year.
First, live PVs. Like, actual PVs and not the stuff to follow. Feast on this jazz:
“Nameless Star of My Home”
Portrait of a Beautiful Leona
Nice! They also just dropped this preview, “Hoshinotereka,” on Soundcloud:
The lyrics are here, too. That was thoughtful of them!
These live video compilations, though, are something else. Continue reading
The upstart queens of idorock, Q’ulle, are thankfully still alive (get it?) after the little bit of drama back in the fall, and they’re promoting their big “evolution” show on Jan. 7 using the only means that ever makes sense — by DVD video digest!
Just in case that Facebook post didn’t render, or you like embeds or something
Actually, yes, somebody (d0fph0t0!) did mention Babyraids Japan, in the context of the Best of 2016 voting and why the hell weren’t Babyraids Japan included? And the basic reason is that they weren’t nominated by anybody. But the other basic reason is that, a few posts about them here and there, they’ve never really caught on the way some others do.
So with lots of eyes looking at ye olde Homicidols.com over the next few days, let’s check in on the queens of “emotional idorock.”
What luck! This charming video appeared on YouTube about a week ago:
Reverse the Curse! See, back in the early days of the site, it seemed like just mentioning a group out of context (like, “hey, let’s post some random Under Beasty video, haven’t heard from them in a little while”) would lead to something crushing coming along about them not long after. Or, like in the case of Psybou Kanojo, the discovery itself led to the project’s end.
But the Curse also has a flipside, and it’s that sometimes random mentions turned into fresh new releases (like Under Beasty!). And so it is this time! Fresh off of getting a chance to bring up Sugartrap again for the first time in a while, here they are with a preview for their upcoming first full album:
We have already trod this ground to an extent with the awkward business with the “Winter Song” free download that wasn’t but the pretty okay Soundcloud experience. That was the B-side to GANG PARADE’s upcoming single re-release of “Plastic 2 Mercy”*; this is the real McCoy:

Hey, and maybe the download link works this time! (It does!) Or, given how they didn’t even bother to correct it the last time (unless I missed that), I guess that epic prankster Watanabe was just getting another one over on us! What a commentary on the human condition and his own oft-frustrating idol project!
Anyway. There are going to be several cohorts of reaction to this reproduction of the Pla2me classic, and I’d love for unfiltered thoughts from people who fit any of these categories: Continue reading
I’ve been a bad Maniac: After encouraging others to participate in a bit of #DailyParty Rockets in the run-up to kawaiicore’s finest’s one-man next Sunday, I completely forgot to do it myself … despite both making the call and starting that whole hashtag in the first place and, right, also really like Party Ro–
Look, the point is, they’re good and fun in a completely different way than a lot of our favorites, doing work as completely inoffensive (and indeed quite charming!) kawaiidols who just so happen to perform hard rock music. As the kids say, bless.

Or at least the weirdest!
In what I think is the largest collection of Dots on stage at any one time ever, here are the enigmatic shoegazers in “Noise Suite”:
DotsKaidan is the only logical conclusion to this project now. Continue reading
I AM ALL OUT OF CLEVER ALLITERATION THIS MORNING! So let’s just enjoy Malcolm Mask McLaren, still and forever performing with their faces visible to the world, in this live video for “myself” which is a pretty nice song but was already the subject of their first real MV so:
