Short Posts for Short (Teaser) Tracks with mishmash

Ah, mishmash, the kind of pun-ready, merry-marking idol group that I’d have to invent from the innate substance of the universe if they didn’t already exist, so perfectly they fit into their niche as they do. Yes, one of 2018’s top debutantes, and one yet to fail to make good on that reputation with any release. Bully on them, then, to keep clips of tracks flowing onto Soundcloud, which has inexplicably emerged as the best resource for new idol stuff short of an international CD service. The latest entry:

Prepare for the Weekend and Change with Melon Batake a go go’s ‘Idol of the Wilderness’

This beauty popped up on Soundcloud like it was preordained. If you aren’t ready to smash Friday and go into your weekend like a BAMF, possibly while stroking the six-shooter in your hip holster while striding down a dusty Main Street in search of outlaws to bring to justice, I very literally cannot help you:

Never bring an idol to a gunfight, they said, but who the hell are they, and why wouldn’t I? You clearly need them and their music to set the scene!

Melon’s got a big line of shows next week. Gotta promote that final indie release!

It’s going to be so weird to have this in-every-sense-of-the-word-outstanding unit publishing on a major label. As long as it doesn’t mess with what Soze’s able to do with that incredible brain of hers, I’ll take it with cautious optimism.

This Is All of DAIDAIDAI’s First One-man

No one single thing in the past week got me as excited to acknowledge a YouTube notification as this. I love DAIDAIDAI, have championed them from their birth (two years ago!), have eagerly waited for a chance to completely immerse myself in their soundscapes, the kind of thing that really only works when you’re seeing a live, rather than catching up on clips from fans’ cameras or the errant MV. And today, a pro-shot (of sorts). It feels like victory.

Lest Anybody Not Be Aware of How Good mishmash Is

I legitimately hate being more than a week late on this, especially because it doesn’t look like the hype train went nearly far enough in response. Maybe I can help to make up for it by amplifying that hype!

Mishmash, who you may recall I damn near had a stroke over back when they debuted, are yes part of the epic Class of 2018, and they’re making good on their promise at the kind of rate that suggests only good things ahead. This, “SHINING”, is as far as I know just an arrow in their quiver for now, but they went ahead and put it to an MV: Continue reading

This Is NEO BREAK’s First Single

And speaking of stuff that I didn’t get around to working on while I was on hiatus, here’s one that I found to be a true personal delight … two weeks ago, when I first saw the video and made a post draft. “A ha,” thought I, “’tis the perfect item to schedule ahead for when I will be detached from the Internet!” So cute of me to think that I’d actually have the time to do all of that, pre or otherwise!

It’s a nice song, though.

This guy was actually released on Sept. 26, so I’ve technically gotten in the post within the opening two weeks of its existence, YouTube publish date of the video (and lack of full MV) be damned. They also had a one-man on the 30th, which I obviously didn’t inform you about despite the big note a few lines down from here that I’m about to delete, because, like, this post is late. Help! Kaqriyo Terror Architect Is Expanding

The image that you see above is impendingly irrelevant:

Two new members! Considering that Kakuriyo is already among the loudest and sonically wild acts in idol — Album of the Year contenders, Corenament runners-up — I have to think that two additional weirdos joining the fray will only make things more of that. Continue reading

Work out with Eren-chan!

Dang, when was the last time that I got to post about one of my favorite solo idols? This long ago! You know how I like to refer to a recent past time that I listened to a thing and thought of a thing and then wham there it is? This is like the opposite of that — I have my Eren-chan CD in my car and like to play it when I enter this particularly troublesome stretch of a particular journey. Yes, I did it within the past month, but it didn’t really make me go, oh hey Eren, what up? It was more, dang, I should listen to this more.

Anyway! Eren-chan, who is cool and good, released an album back in June (I’m so sorry!), and dropped this MV yesterday to get you motivated:

This one’s more wacky than loud, but that’s fine when it’s been almost a year since you last got to catch up, you know? Continue reading

I’m Rectifying a Longstanding Omission: Wagamama Kiite

Now, before I start to actually blog this post with all the decorum and professionalism of a person who goes by Maniac online, allow me to acknowledge that this is so incredibly far from being a hey-look-what-I-found moment, but a I-know-you’ve-been-bugging-me-about-this one. Who hasn’t brought up Wagamama Kiite (Twitter) at some point in the last couple of months? And I get it, they have a sound and a fun name. They should get attention!

So here’s attention. In fact, attention ever since you started to point at them and scream, you animals, because I don’t know when I started to Twitter and Soundcloud follow them, but it was definitely long enough ago to forget that it had happened, and now look, there’s a new track on Soundcloud, platform of champions, and we’re going to sit here together and enjoy it:

Let’s All Say Hi to POPPING EMO

Doop-dee-doop, scrolling through Twitter … hello, what’s this?

Pro tip, friends: There are lots of ways to stumble over new idol stuff, but the most reliable will always be what other idols tweet about, especially when it’s groups promoting mixed shows. In this case, it was POPPING EMO that stood out in particular, because what a name. A few clicks later, and: Continue reading

IVOLVE Made It Better

Some idols get boring after a while, to the loss of us all; others keep getting more and more interesting, and it’s a neat journey to go along with.

IVOLVE, who are normally just the sort of idol that’s worth following for occasional updates, are making cool and good positive growth moves, and that warms me right the hell up.

For instance, their second single, releasing next week:
